New trailers week 33 (September 28-October 4)

  • Wish: a new computer-animated musical fantasy film directed by Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorn (in her feature directorial debut), produced by Peter Del Vecho and Juan Pablo Reyes, and written by Jennifer Lee and Allison Moore. The art style combines computer animation with Disney’s classic watercolor animation. The film stars the voices of Ariana DeBose, Chris Pine, Alan Tudyk, Angelique Cabral, Victor Garber, Natasha Rothwell, Jennifer Kumiyama, Evan Peters, Harvey Guillén, Ramy Youssef, Niko Vargas, Della Saba, and Jon Rudnitsky. The story focuses on a 17-year-old girl named Asha who makes a passionate plea to the stars in a moment of need when she senses a darkness in the Kingdom of Rosas that no one else does. This newest Disney film is releasing in theatres on November 22.
  • Argylle: an upcoming spy action comedy film directed and produced by Matthew Vaughn, and written by Jason Fuchs. The film features an ensemble cast that includes Henry Cavill, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, Dua Lipa, Ariana DeBose, John Cena, and Samuel L. Jackson. It follows Elly Conway, an introverted spy novelist who seldom leaves her home, who is drawn into the real world of espionage when the plots of her books get a little too close to the activities of a sinister underground syndicate. When real-life spy Aiden shows up to save her (he says) from being kidnapped or killed (or both), Elly and her beloved cat Alfie are plunged into a covert world where nothing, and no one, is what it seems. Argylle is releasing in theatres on February 2, 2024 and on Apple TV+ at an undetermined date.
  • Big Mouth season 7: this animated coming-of-age sitcom created by Andrew Goldberg, Nick Kroll, Mark Levin, and Jennifer Flackett is coming back with a seventh season. And we don’t have to wait that long for it because it’s releasing on Netflix on October 20. We will follow Nick, Andrew and all their friends once again, who are in their final year of middle school. All the main voice actors are coming back with a list of other big names joining this seventh season including Megan Thee Stallion, Lupita Nyong’o, Padma Lakshmi, Zazie Beetz, Billy Porter, Stephanie Beatriz, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan. It promises to be the most outrageous season yet. After that we’re getting an eight and final season in which we will have to say goodbye to our beloved characters. But for now we can almost enjoy this seventh season of the show.
  • Leave the World Behind: we got a first new teaser for this new psychological thriller film written, directed and produced by Sam Esmail. It is based on the 2020 novel of the same name by Rumaan Alam. The film stars Julia Roberts (who also produced the film), Mahershala Ali, Ethan Hawke, Myha’la, and Kevin Bacon. It follows a family whose vacation on Long Island is interrupted by two strangers bearing news of a mysterious blackout. As the threat grows more imminent, both families must decide how best to survive the potential crisis, all while grappling with their own place in this collapsing world. The film will have its world premiere at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre on October 25 and is releasing in limited theaters on November 22 followed by streaming on Netflix on December 8.
  • All The Light We Cannot See: a new drama limited series directed by Shawn Levy, based on Anthony Doerr’s Pulitzer Prize winning novel of the same name. It stars Aria Mia Loberti, Mark Ruffalo, Louis Hofmann, Lars Eidinger, Andrea Deck, Marion Bailey and Hugh Laurie. The four-part series follows the stories of a blind French teen girl named Marie-Laure and a German soldier named Werner, whose paths cross in occupied France during World War II. The limited series is releasing on Netflix on November 2.
  • Priscilla: the upcoming biographical drama film written, directed and co-produced by Sofia Coppola, based on the 1985 memoir Elvis and Me by Priscilla Presley and Sandra Harmon. It follows the life of Priscilla Presley and her relationship with Elvis Presley. Cailee Spaeny and Jacob Elordi star as Priscilla and Elvis, respectively. Also starring in the film are Dagmara Domińczyk, Raine Monroe Boland, Emily Mitchell, Rodrigo Fernandez-Stoll, Luke Humphrey, Dan Beirne, Olivia-Mai Barrett, Dan Abramovici, R Austin Ball and Evan Annisette. Priscilla premiered at the Venice International Film Festival earlier this year and will be released in theatres on November 3.
  • Fellow Travelers: a new historical romance political thriller miniseries based on the 2007 fictional novel of the same name by Thomas Mallon. Starring Matt Bomer and Jonathan Bailey in the lead roles, it centers on the decades-long romance between two men who first meet during the height of McCarthyism in the 1950s. The series will premiere on Showtime on October 27.
  • Wingwomen: a new French action comedy crime film directed by Mélanie Laurent who also stars in the film alongside Adèle Exarchopoulos, Manon Bresch and Isabelle Adjani. Titled ‘Voleuses’ in French, it follows pro thief Carole who is tired of life on the run and wants to retire. But not before she has to do one last job. Together with her partner in crime and best friend Alex and rookie getaway driver Sam, the three women go on one seemingly simple last job unlike any they’ve done before. The film is releasing on Netflix on November 1.
  • Silent Night: a new action thriller film directed by John Woo and written by Robert Archer Lynn. The film stars Joel Kinnaman, Scott Mescudi, Harold Torres and Catalina Sandino Moreno. It is John Woo’s first American feature film since Paycheck (2003) and features no dialogue. In the film, we follow a tormented father who witnesses his young son die when caught in a gang’s crossfire on Christmas Eve. While recovering from a wound that costs him his voice, he makes vengeance his life’s mission and embarks on a punishing training regimen in order to avenge his son’s death. The film is releasing in theatres on December 1.
