Gen V: a new superhero series developed by Craig Rosenberg, Evan Goldberg, and Eric Kripke, serving as a spin-off of The Boys, and based on The Boys comic book story arc ‘We Gotta Go Now’ by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. It stars Jaz Sinclair, Chance Perdomo, Lizze Broadway, Maddie Phillips, Derek Luh, London Thor, Asa Germann, Shelley Conn, Jason Ritter, and Patrick Schwarzenegger. It also guest stars some people from The Boys including Jessie T. Usher, Claudia Doumit and Jensen Ackles. In the series we follow young adult superheroes, or ‘supes’, who are tested in battle royal challenges at the Godolkin University School of Crimefighting, run by Vought International. The series, set concurrently with the fourth season of The Boys, premiered on Amazon Prime Video on September 29 with the first three episodes and the rest releasing weekly. I’m a big fan of The Boys and also really liked the first few episodes of this series so I look forward to the rest of the episodes.
The Creator: a new science fiction action thriller film directed by Gareth Edwards from a screenplay he co-wrote with Chris Weitz. The film stars John David Washington, Gemma Chan, Ken Watanabe, Sturgill Simpson, Madeleine Yuna Voyles, and Allison Janney. Amid a future war between the human race and the forces of artificial intelligence, we follow Joshua, a hardened ex-special forces agent grieving the disappearance of his wife. He is recruited to hunt down and kill the Creator, the elusive architect of advanced AI who has developed a mysterious weapon with the power to end the war and mankind itself. The film was released in theatres on September 29.
Saw X: the tenth installment overall in the Saw film series which serves as both a direct sequel to Saw (2004) and a prequel to Saw II (2005). This horror film is directed and edited by Kevin Greutert, and written by Peter Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg. The film stars Tobin Bell, Shawnee Smith, Synnøve Macody Lund, Steven Brand, Michael Beach and Renata Vaca. Weeks after the events of Saw (2004), John Kramer travels to Mexico after learning of a potential “miracle” cure for his terminal cancer. However, he soon realizes that the entire operation is a fraudulent scheme targeting vulnerable individuals. Finding a new purpose, the infamous serial killer and his apprentice abduct the con artists and subject them to a horrifying new series of traps. The film was released in theatres on September 29.
Flora and Son: a new musical comedy-drama film written and directed by John Carney, featuring original songs by John Carney and Gary Clark. The film stars Eve Hewson, Jack Reynor, Orén Kinlan, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. It follows Flora, a single mother living in Dublin, who is having trouble with her estranged son Max, a rebellious teenage petty thief. Encouraged by the Gardaí to find Max a hobby, Flora rescues an old guitar from a skip and, with the help of a Los Angeles-based online guitar teacher, discovers that one person’s rubbish can be another person’s salvation. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and was released in select cinemas in the US on September 22 and was also released on Apple TV+ worldwide on September 29.
Chucky season 3: the third season of the horror series created by Don Mancini. Based on the Child‘s Play film franchise, the series serves as a sequel to Cult of Chucky, the seventh film in the franchise. It stars Brad Dourif reprising his role as the titular character, alongside Zackary Arthur, Alyvia Alyn Lind, and Björgvin Arnarson.We follow the doll Chucky who is accompanied by Jake Wheeler who bought the doll. Murders and crazy stuff happen just like you would think when you know Chucky. And in this season he is deadlier than ever. This third season of the series has been split in two parts with the first part that premiered on Syfy on October 4 and the second part coming in 2024.
The Kill Room: a new dark comedy thriller film directed by Nicol Paone and written by Jonathan Jacobson. It stars Uma Thurman, Joe Manganiello, Maya Hawke, Debi Mazar, Dree Hemingway and Samuel L. Jackson. In the film the art world meets the underworld when a money-laundering scheme accidentally turns a hitman into an overnight avant-garde sensation. The film was released in theatres on September 28.
