- Thanksgiving: a new horror slasher film directed by Eli Roth, from a screenplay written by Jeff Rendell and a story by Roth and Rendell, who produced with Roger Birnbaum. It is based on Roth’s mock trailer of the same name from Grindhouse (2007). The film stars Patrick Dempsey, Addison Rae, Milo Manheim, Jalen Thomas Brooks, Nell Verlaque, Rick Hoffman, and Gina Gershon. After a Black Friday riot ends in tragedy, a mysterious serial killer, known only as John Carver, comes to Plymouth, Massachusetts, with the intention of creating a Thanksgiving carving board out of the town’s inhabitants. Thanksgiving is releasing in theatres on November 17, very close to when the United States are celebrating Thanksgiving.
- The Buccaneers: a new British period drama series written by Katherine Jakeways, based on the unfinished novel of the same name by American novelist Edith Wharton, published posthumously in 1938. It stars Kristine Froseth, Alisha Boe, Josie Totah, Aubri Ibrag, Imogen Waterhouse, Mia Threapleton, Christina Hendricks and Josh Dylan. Set in 1870s London, we follow a group of American women who arrive into London society which results in a culture clash, with two differing approaches to tradition.The series is premiering on Apple TV+ on November 8.
- The Beekeeper: a new action thriller film directed by David Ayer and written by Kurt Wimmer. It stars Jason Statham, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Josh Hutcherson, Bobby Naderi, Minnie Driver, Phylicia Rashad and Jeremy Irons. We follow Mr. Clay, a former operative of a clandestine organization called “Beekeepers”. After his friend and neighbor dies by suicide after falling for a phishing scam, Mr. Clay sets out to exact revenge against the company responsible for this. The film is releasing in theatres on January 12, 2024.
- Night Swim: a new supernatural horror film written and directed by Bryce McGuire, and based on the 2014 short film of the same name by McGuire and Rod Blackhurst. The film stars Wyatt Russell, Kerry Condon, Amélie Hoeferle and Gavin Warren, as a family whose backyard swimming pool is haunted. James Wan and Jason Blum serve as producers. Night Swim is releasing in theatres on January 5, 2024.
- The Color Purple: the upcoming musical coming-of-age period drama film directed by Blitz Bazawule from a screenplay by Marcus Gardley, based on the stage musical of the same name, which in turn is based on the 1982 novel of the same name by Alice Walker. It is the second film adaptation of the novel, following the 1985 film directed by Steven Spielberg. He returned to produce this version with Quincy Jones, along with the stage musical’s producers Scott Sanders and Oprah Winfrey, the latter of whom also starred in the 1985 film as Sofia. The film stars Taraji P. Henson, Danielle Brooks, Colman Domingo, Corey Hawkins, H.E.R., Halle Bailey, Phylicia Pearl Mpasi, and Fantasia Barrino in her film debut. Fantasia Barrino and Danielle Brooks both reprise their roles from productions of the stage musical. The film tells the story of the life-long struggles of an African American woman living in the south during the early 1900s. The Color Purple is releasing in theatres on December 25.
- Pain Hustlers: a new crime drama film directed by David Yates from a screenplay by Wells Tower. It is based on the 2022 book of the same name by Evan Hughes. The film stars Emily Blunt, Chris Evans, Andy García, Catherine O’Hara, Jay Duplass, Brian d’Arcy James, and Chloe Coleman. It centers on a high school dropout who lands a job with a failing pharmaceutical company in Central Florida, where she soon finds herself at the center of a criminal conspiracy. Pain Hustlers had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival last month and is releasing in select theaters on October 20, before streaming on Netflix on October 27.
- The Iron Claw: a new biographical sports film based on the life of professional wrestler Kevin Von Erich and the Von Erich family. It was written and directed by Sean Durkin. The film stars Zac Efron, Jeremy Allen White, Harris Dickinson, Maura Tierney, Holt McCallany and Lily James. It follows the Von Erich family, a dynasty of wrestlers from the 1960s onwards that had enormous success, and popularized the iron claw professional wrestling hold. However, they not only had to battle inside the ring, but fight the ‘Von Erich curse’ outside of it. The film is releasing in theatres on December 22.
