- Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes: the upcoming sequel in the Planet of the Apes reboot franchise. This science fiction action film is directed by Wes Ball and stars Owen Teague in the lead role alongside Freya Allan, Peter Macon, Eka Darville, and Kevin Durand. It is the sequel to War for the Planet of the Apes (2017) and the fourth installment in the Planet of the Apes reboot franchise. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ is releasing in theatres on May 24, 2024. Read more about the movie here.
- The Fall Guy: a new action comedy-thriller film directed by David Leitch and written by Drew Pearce which is an adaptation of the 1980s TV series of the same name created by Glen A. Larson. The film stars Ryan Gosling in the lead role as Colt, a battered and past-his-prime stuntman who finds himself working on a movie set with the star for whom he doubled long ago and who replaced him. The star, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, then goes missing. Also starring in the film are Emily Blunt, Stephanie Hsu, Winston Duke, Hannah Waddingham, and Teresa Palmer. Lee Majors, who starred in the original TV series, will also appear in the film. The Fall Guy is releasing in theatres on March 1, 2024. Read more about the movie here.
- Echo: a new superhero miniseries created by Marion Dayre, based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name Echo. It’s a spin-off from the series Hawkeye (2021) in which we saw the character of Echo for the first time. The series follows Maya Lopez aka Echo, played by Alaqua Cox, who returns to her hometown where she must come to terms with her past, reconnect with her Native American roots, and embrace her family and community. Vincent D’Onofrio is also reprising his role as Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin which he already did in Hawkeye and Charlie Cox is also back as Matt Murdock aka Daredevil. Chaske Spencer, Tantoo Cardinal, Graham Greene, Cody Lightning, Devery Jacobs, and Zahn McClarnon also star in the series. The whole series is releasing on Disney+ and Hulu on January 10, 2024. - Lift: a new heist comedy film directed by F. Gary Gray and written by Daniel Kunka. The film stars Kevin Hart (who also served as producer), Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Vincent D’Onofrio, Úrsula Corberó, Billy Magnussen, Jacob Batalon, Jean Reno, and Sam Worthington. It follows a master thief who teams up with her ex-boyfriend to steal 100 million dollars in gold bullion being transported on a 777 passenger flight. They will have to steal it while in the air. Lift is releasing on Netflix on January 12, 2024.
- Mean Girls: the upcoming musical comedy film directed by Arturo Perez Jr. and Samantha Jayne from a screenplay by Tina Fey. It’s adapted from the stage musical of the same name, which in turn is based on the 2004 film of the same name, itself partially based on Rosalind Wiseman’s 2002 book Queen Bees and Wannabes. The film stars Angourie Rice, Auliʻi Cravalho, Reneé Rapp, Jaquel Spivey, Avantika Vandanapu, Bebe Wood, Christopher Briney, Jenna Fischer, and Busy Philipps. Tina Fey and Tim Meadows also reprise their roles from the 2004 film. Reneé Rapp is the only Broadway cast member to reprise her role in the film. - Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire: the upcoming sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021). This supernatural comedy film is directed by Gil Kenan from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jason Reitman. The film stars Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Logan Kim, Celeste O’Connor, Carrie Coon and Paul Rudd, alongside Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts and William Atherton reprising their characters from the earlier films. Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, James Acaster and Emily Alyn Lind are joining the cast. The film is releasing in theatres on March 29, 2024.
- My Life with The Walter Boys: a new coming-of-age drama series created by Melanie Halsall who co-wrote it with Ali Novak. It is an adaptation of Ali Novak’s 2014 novel of the same name. The series will follow recently-orphaned Jackie Howard, played by Nikki Rodriguez, a teenage girl from Manhattan who relocates to rural Colorado after she is taken in by the Walters, a family of ten sons. Also starring in the series are Ashby Gentry, Noah LaLonde, Marc Blucas, Alisha Newton, and Sarah Rafferty. The series is releasing on Netflix on December 7.
- Candy Cane Lane: a new Christmas comedy film directed by Reginald Hudlin and written by Kelly Younger. The film stars Eddie Murphy, Tracee Ellis Ross, Robin Thede, Nick Offerman, Chris Redd, and Jillian Bell. It follows Chris Carver and his family whose local neighborhood hosts an annual contest over who has the best decorated home for Christmas. Desperate to win, Chris makes a deal with a charismatic stranger, Pepper, for the use of magic to make his home the most festive. He soon learns that Pepper is an evil elf who has made similar deals in the past, with her victims being transformed into plastic dolls. Chris must rally his family to stop Pepper from unleashing misery upon his friends and neighbors and break the deal before he loses everything. The film is releasing on Amazon Prime Video on December 1.
- The Family Plan: a new action comedy film directed by Simon Cellan Jones and written by David Coggeshall. It stars Mark Wahlberg (who also produces under his production company Municipal Pictures) and Michelle Monaghan in the lead roles as Dan and Jessica Morgan. Dan Morgan is a seemingly normal family man, but was once the deadliest assassin in the world. When his past finally catches up with him, Dan takes his family on a ‘road trip’ to Las Vegas so he can confront the man who wants him dead—all while trying to keep his old life a secret from his wife and children. The film is releasing on Apple TV+ on December 15.
- Masters of the Air: an upcoming war drama miniseries created by John Shiban and John Orloff. It is based on the 2007 book Masters of the Air: America’s Bomber Boys Who Fought The Air War Against Nazi Germany by Donald L. Miller and follows the actions of the 100th Bombardment Group of the United States Army Air Forces during World War II. The series serves as a companion to Band of Brothers (2001) and The Pacific (2010). It stars an ensemble cast including Austin Butler, Callum Turner, Anthony Boyle, Nate Mann, Raff Law, Barry Keoghan, Ncuti Gatwa, and Kai Alexander. Masters of the Air is premiering on Apple TV+ on January 26, 2024.
- Inside Out 2: the new sequel to Inside Out (2015), directed by Kelsey Mann in his feature directorial debut. The film stars the voices of Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, Lewis Black, Tony Hale, Liza Lapira, and Maya Hawke. The film features Pete Docter’s “five to 27 emotions” idea from the first film that Mann pitched during its production to utilize ‘truthful’ worldbuilding. Just like in the first film, we will be inside the mind of teenager Riley, with Joy, Sadness and the emotions having to deal with a new set of personified emotions, including Anxiety. Inside Out 2 is releasing in theatres on June 14, 2024.
