Oppenheimer, Poor Things and The Zone of Interest win BAFTAs, Barbie wins big at People’s Choice Awards

Award season really is in full force. After having the Critic’s Choice Awards and Emmy Awards last month, we have the SAG Awards and Oscars coming. But this weekend we also had a lot of awards given away during the British Film Awards (BAFTAs) and the People’s Choice Awards. Live from London, a lot of this year’s biggest films came together for the BAFTAs, from Cillian Murphy and Christian Nolan from Oppenheimer to Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie from Barbie, they were all there.

At the BAFTAs the big winners were Oppenheimer, Poor Things and The Zone of Interest. Oppenheimer won the most prizes with seven, including Best Film, Best Director for Nolan and Lead Actor for Murphy, Poor Things comes second with five awards, including Lead Actress for Emma Stone.

The award for Best Film was presented by legend Michael J. Fox, Hannah Waddingham sang a beautiful cover of “Time After Time” during the In Memoriam segment, which honored stars including Tina Turner and Michael Gambon and Sophie Ellis-Bextor sang her “Saltburn” hit “Murder on the Dancefloor”. The whole show was hosted by David Tennant.

Besides the BAFTAs, there was also the People’s Choice Awards last night live from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California. Hosted by Simu Liu, who was also nominated for his role in Barbie, this year the number of categories expanded to 45. While Barbie didn’t win any BAFTA earlier in the night, this time the film was the big winner winning five awards including the top movie prize. Grey’s Anatomy was voted TV show of the year and other big winners included Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce, Ice Spice, Beyoncé, Jennifer Aniston, Pedro Pascal and more.

Adam Sandler accepted the People’s Icon Award (with a hilarious speech about confusing the honor with PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive), plus Lenny Kravitz received the Music Icon Award after giving a career-spanning performance. The People’s Choice Awards reward in films and TV as well in music, but because this is a film and tv website, I will only give you the winners of the films and tv categories.
