- The Strangers Chapter 1: an upcoming slasher film directed by Renny Harlin, with a screenplay by Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freeland, from a story by Bryan Bertino. Madelaine Petsch and Froy Gutierrez star in the lead roles as a couple who come into contact with the three psychopathic masked strangers while on a road trip. Serving as the third film in The Strangers film series created by Bertino, it is the first installment of a new trilogy of standalone films, where Chapter 1 will follow a similar premise to the first film and takes place in the same continuity as the first two installments, acting as a prequel to the first film. The Strangers: Chapter 1 is releasing on May 17. Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 are both set to be released later in 2024.
- The Garfield Movie: the upcoming animated comedy film based on Jim Davis’ comic strip Garfield and directed by Mark Dindal from a screenplay written by Paul A. Kaplan, Mark Torgove, and David Reynolds. The film stars Chris Pratt as the voice of the titular character, alongside the voices of Samuel L. Jackson, Hannah Waddingham, Ving Rhames, Nicholas Hoult, Cecily Strong, Harvey Guillén, Brett Goldstein, and Bowen Yang. It follows Garfield, the world-famous, Monday-hating, lasagna-loving indoor cat, who is about to have a wild outdoor adventure. After an unexpected reunion with his long-lost father – scruffy street cat Vic – Garfield and his canine friend Odie are forced from their perfectly pampered life into joining Vic in a hilarious, high-stakes heist. The Garfield Movie is releasing in theatres on May 24.
- Ripley: a new psychological thriller series based on Patricia Highsmith’s 1955 crime novel The Talented Mr. Ripley. Starring Andrew Scott as Tom Ripley, Johnny Flynn as Dickie Greenleaf and Dakota Fanning as Marge Sherwood, the eight-episode limited series was created, written and directed by Steven Zaillian. Set in 1960s New York, we follow Tom Ripley who is hired by a wealthy man to convince his wayward son to return home from Italy. But Tom’s introduction to Dickie Greenleaf’s leisurely life abroad is the first step into a complex life of deceit, fraud and murder. Ripley is releasing on Netflix on April 4.
- Alex Rider season 3: the third season of the spy thriller series based on the novel series of the same name by Anthony Horowitz. Otto Farrant returns as the eponymous character, who is recruited by a subdivision of MI6 as a teenage spy to infiltrate places that others are unable to. Also back in this third season are Stephen Dillane, Vicky McClure, Brenock O’Connor, Ronkẹ Adékoluẹjo, and Marli Siu. They will be joined by new cast members Sofia Helin, Shelly Conn, Kevin McNally, and Jason Wong. This season, which will be the last one, is adapting the book Scorpia and follows Alex Rider who has to find the criminal organization known as Scorpia to learn the truth about his father. Season 3 of Alex Rider is releasing on Amazon Freevee on April 5.
- A Gentleman in Moscow: an upcoming drama series based on the 2016 novel of the same name by Amor Towles. Ben Vanstone is writer, executive producer, and showrunner. The series stars Ewan McGregor in the lead role as Count Alexander Ilyich Rostov who spends decades banished to an attic hotel room after the Russian Revolution, after being sentenced to house arrest by a Bolshevik tribunal. Also starring in the series are Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Leah Harvey, Johnny Harris, and Paul Ready. The series is premiering on Showtime and Paramount+ on March 29.
- Sugar: an upcoming science fiction drama series created by Mark Protosevich and starring Colin Farrell who also serves as executive producer. Farrell stars in the lead role as John Sugar, a private detective in Los Angeles who has to find a missing girl. Also starring in the series are Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Amy Ryan and Dennis Boutsikaris. Sugar is premiering on Apple TV+ on April 5.
- The Wild Robot: an upcoming animated science-fiction adventure film based on the book series of the same name by Peter Brown. The film was written and directed by Chris Sanders, who also produced the film with Jeff Hermann, while Sanders longtime collaborative partner Dean DeBlois serves as executive producer. The Wild Robot follows Rozzum 7134 (“Roz” for short), a futuristic robot that washes ashore on a deserted island. From there a tale of survival and discovery begins when she becomes the unexpected protector to an orphaned gosling, which she names Brightbill. Together they struggle to survive the harsh environment, but only succeed with the help of a close-knit group of misfit animals, who become first friends, then family. Ultimately Roz and company save the island from a robotic invasion by Roz’s manufacturer, looking to bring her back to civilization by any means necessary. The Wild Robot is releasing in theatres on September 20.
- Sing Sing: a new drama film directed by Greg Kwedar, who co-wrote the screenplay with Clint Bentley. Based on the real-life Rehabilitation Through the Arts program at Sing Sing maximum security prison, the film centres on a group of inmates involved in the creation of theatrical stage shows through the program. The cast includes professional actors Colman Domingo and Paul Raci, but mainly comprises real-life former inmates who were themselves alumni of the program during their incarceration. The film premiered in the Special Presentations program at the Toronto International Film Festival last year and is releasing in theatres in the US in July 2024.
- The Idea of You: a new romantic comedy film directed by Michael Showalter and based on the novel of the same name by Robinne Lee. It stars Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine in the lead roles as Solène Marchand and Hayes Campbell. The film follows a love affair between a divorced mother, Solène, and the lead singer of the hottest boyband on the planet, Hayes Campbell. The film is premiering at South by Southwest on March 16 as the closing night film and is releasing on Prime Video on May 2.
- Fallout: the upcoming post-apocalyptic drama series co-created by Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner and developed by Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan, through their Kilter Films production company. It is based on the role-playing video game franchise created by Interplay Entertainment and now owned by Bethesda Softworks. It stars Ella Purnell as Lucy, a young Vault Dweller and the primary protagonist, Aaron Moten, Walton Goggins, Moisés Arias, and Kyle MacLachlan. The series depicts the aftermath of an apocalyptic nuclear exchange in an alternate history where advances in nuclear technology after WWII led to the emergence of a retrofuturistic society and a subsequent resource war. The survivors took refuge in fallout bunkers known as Vaults, built to preserve humanity in the event of nuclear annihilation. Two centuries later, a young woman named Lucy, a descendant of the original “Vault Dwellers” from one of many Vaults, leaves behind the only life she has ever known to venture out into the dangerously hostile and savage Wasteland of a devastated Los Angeles. Fallout is releasing on Prime Video on April 11.
- 3 Body Problem: a final trailer was released for this new science fiction series created by David Benioff, D. B. Weiss and Alexander Woo, the creators of Game of Thrones. It’s based on the novel of the same name by Liu Cixin and stars an ensemble cast including Saamer Usmani, Jess Hong, Jovan Adepo, Sea Shimooka, Rosalind Chao, Benedict Wong, John Bradley, Eiza González, and Alex Sharp. It’ s a very mysterious series following a group of scientists that will face humanity’s greatest threat. The series is releasing on Netflix on March 21.
- Loot season 2: the second season of the comedy series created by Matt Hubbard and Alan Yang. The series follows newly single 40-year-old Molly Wells, whose divorce from her tech billionaire ex-husband has made her the third-wealthiest woman in the world, as she decides to run the day-to-day of the charitable foundation she forgot she founded, much to its employees’ chagrin. The series stars Maya Rudolph as Molly alongside Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, Joel Kim Booster, Ron Funches and Nat Faxon. This second season of Loot is premiering on Apple TV+ on April 3.
