- Inside Out 2: the new animated coming-of-age film which is the sequel to Inside Out (2015). It’s directed by Kelsey Mann (in his feature directorial debut), produced by Mark Nielsen, and written by Meg LeFauve. The film stars the voices of Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, Lewis Black, Diane Lane, and Kyle MacLachlan reprising their roles, with Tony Hale, Liza Lapira, Maya Hawke, Ayo Edebiri, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Paul Walter Hauser, and Kensington Tallman joining the cast. Inside Out 2 returns to the mind of newly minted teenager Riley just as headquarters is undergoing a sudden demolition to make room for something entirely unexpected: new Emotions! Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust, who’ve long been running a successful operation by all accounts, aren’t sure how to feel when Anxiety shows up. And it looks like she’s not alone. The film is releasing in theatres on June 14.
- The First Omen: a new supernatural horror film directed by Arkasha Stevenson, who co-wrote the screenplay with Tim Smith and Keith Thomas from a story by Ben Jacoby. It serves as a prequel to The Omen (1976) and is the sixth film in The Omen franchise. The film stars Nell Tiger Free, Tawfeek Barhom, Sônia Braga, Ralph Ineson, and Bill Nighy. It follows an American woman sent to work at a church in Rome who uncovers a sinister conspiracy to bring about the birth of the Antichrist. The film is releasing in theatres on April 5.
- Atlas: a new science fiction thriller film directed by Brad Peyton, and written by Leo Sardarian and Aron Eli Coleite. Jennifer Lopez produces and stars in the film, alongside Simu Liu, Sterling K. Brown, and Mark Strong. It follows Atlas Shepherd, a brilliant but misanthropic data analyst with a deep distrust of artificial intelligence. She joins a mission to capture a renegade robot with whom she shares a mysterious past. When plans go awry, her only hope of saving the future of humanity from AI is to trust it. Atlas is releasing on Netflix on May 24.
- Franklin: an upcoming biographical drama miniseries about the United States Founding Father Benjamin Franklin, based on Stacy Schiff’s 2005 book A Great Improvisation: Franklin, France, and the Birth of America. Michael Douglas stars as Benjamin Franklin alongside Noah Jupe, Marc Duret, Ludivine Sagnier, Thibault de Montalembert, Daniel Mays, Assaad Bouab, Eddie Marsan, Jeanne Balibar, Théodore Pellerin, and John Hollingworth. The series depicts the eight years Benjamin Franklin spent in France to convince the country to underwrite America’s democracy. Franklin is releasing on Apple TV+ on April 12.
- Wildcat: a new biographical drama film about American novelist Flannery O’Connor struggling to publish her first novel. Also based on O’Connor’s short stories, the film is directed by Ethan Hawke and written by Hawke and Shelby Gaines. It stars Maya Hawke, Rafael Casal, Philip Ettinger, Cooper Hoffman, Steve Zahn, and Laura Linney. The film had its world premiere at the 50th Telluride Film Festival last year and is scheduled for a limited release on May 3, with wide release to follow.
- Ezra: a new comedy-drama film directed by Tony Goldwyn, who also appears in the film, and written by Tony Spiridakis. It stars Bobby Cannavale, Rose Byrne, Vera Farmiga, Whoopi Goldberg, Rainn Wilson, William Fitzgerald, and Robert De Niro. Ezra follows Max Bernal, a stand-up comedian living with his father, while struggling to co-parent his autistic son Ezra with his ex-wife. When forced to confront difficult decisions about their son’s future, Max and Ezra embark on a cross-country road trip that has a transcendent impact on both their lives. Ezra is an endearing and often funny exploration of a family determined to find their way through life’s complexities with humor, compassion, and heart. The film premiered at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival and is releasing in theatres on May 31.
- Renegade Nell: an upcoming British historical adventure series written by Sally Wainwright and starring Louisa Harland, Joely Richardson, Adrian Lester, Nick Mohammed, Craig Parkinson, Florence Keen, Frank Dillane and Alice Kremelberg. It follows Nell Jackson who finds herself framed for murder and becomes a female highwayman in 18th century England, becoming the most feared highwaywoman in the country. But when a magical spirit called Billy Blind appears, Nell realises her destiny is bigger than she ever imagined. The series is premiering on Disney+ March 29.
- The Crow: an upcoming supernatural superhero film directed by Rupert Sanders from a screenplay by Zach Baylin and Will Schneider, based on the 1989 limited comic book series of the same name by James O’Barr. It will be the fifth installment in The Crow film series, serving as a reboot. The film stars Bill Skarsgård as Eric Draven / The Crow, a murdered musician who is resurrected to avenge the deaths of himself and his fiancée, played by FKA Twigs. The film is releasing in theatres on June 7.
- The Greatest Hits: a new romantic musical film written, produced and directed by Ned Benson. The film stars Lucy Boynton, Justin H. Min, David Corenswet, and Austin Crute. It follows Harriet who finds art imitating life when she discovers certain songs can transport her back in time – literally. While she relives the past through romantic memories of her former boyfriend, her time travelling collides with a burgeoning new love interest in the present. As she takes her journey through time, she must consider whether or not she should change the past. The film had its world premiere at South by Southwest this week followed by a limited theatrical release on April 5 and streaming release on Hulu on April 12.
