- Scoop: a new British biographical drama film directed by Philip Martin. It stars Gillian Anderson, Rufus Sewell, Billie Piper, and Keeley Hawes and is a dramatic retelling of the process of securing the 2019 BBC television interview of Prince Andrew by presenter and journalist Emily Maitlis and the production team at BBC Two news and current affairs programme Newsnight. The film is an adaptation by Peter Moffat of former Newsnight editor Sam McAlister’s book Scoops: Behind The Scenes of the BBC’s Most Shocking Interview. The film is releasing on Netflix on April 5.
- Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver: the second part of the epic space opera Rebel Moon-film directed by Zack Snyder from a screenplay he co-wrote with Kurt Johnstad and Shay Hatten. It’s based on a story Snyder conceived and follows up to what happened in the first film Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire. Starring in the film is an ensemble cast featuring Sofia Boutella, Djimon Hounsou, Ed Skrein, Michiel Huisman, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Charlie Hunnam, and Anthony Hopkins. The film is set in a fictional galaxy ruled by the imperialistic Motherworld, whose military, the Imperium, threatens a farming colony on the moon of Veldt. Kora, a former Imperium soldier, ventures on a quest to recruit warriors from across the galaxy to make a stand against the Imperium before they return to Veldt. The first part of Rebel Moon was released on Netflix on December 22, 2023 and the second part is releasing on Netflix on April 19.
- The Acolyte: an upcoming science fiction series created by Leslye Headland. It is part of the Star Wars franchise and is set at the end of the High Republic era before the events of the main Star Wars films, approximately 100 years before Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999). It follows a Jedi Master investigating a series of crimes that bring him into conflict with a former Padawan learner and reveal sinister forces. Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman, Joonas Suotamo, and Carrie-Anne Moss star in the series. The Acolyte is premiering on Disney+ on June 4 with its first two episodes. The other six episodes will be released weekly.
- Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga: the upcoming post-apocalyptic action adventure film co-produced and directed by George Miller, who co-wrote it with Nico Lathouris. It serves as both a spin-off and a prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), as well as the fifth film in the Mad Max franchise. It stars Anya Taylor-Joy as the titular character Imperator Furiosa, with Chris Hemsworth, Lachy Hulme, Nathan Jones, and Tom Burke also starring. The film follows a young Furiosa, who is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and into the hands of a Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. While two Tyrants war for dominance over the Citadel, Furiosa survives many trials as she plots a way back home through the Wasteland. Furiosa is releasing in theatres in Australia on May 23, and in the United States the following day.
- Harold and the Purple Crayon: an upcoming live-action/animated fantasy film directed by Carlos Saldanha in his live-action directorial debut from a screenplay written by David Guion and Michael Handelman. Based on the 1955 children’s book of the same name written by Crockett Johnson, the film stars Zachary Levi in the titular role, with Lil Rel Howery, Benjamin Bottani, Jemaine Clement, Tanya Reynolds, and Zooey Deschanel in supporting roles. The film follows adventurous Harold who can make anything come to life simply by drawing it inside of his book, After he grows up and draws himself off the book’s pages and into the physical world, Harold finds he has a lot to learn about real life – and that his trusty purple crayon may set off more hilarious hijinks than he thought possible. When the power of unlimited imagination falls into the wrong hands, it will take all of Harold and his friends’ creativity to save both the real world and his own. The film is releasing in theaters on August 2.
- The Fall Guy: the new action comedy film directed by David Leitch and written by Drew Pearce. Loosely based on the 1980s TV series about stunt performers, the film stars Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt in the lead roles with Winston Duke, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Hannah Waddingham, and Stephanie Hsu in supporting roles. It follows Colt Seavers, a battered and past-his-prime action choreographer, who finds himself working on a film set with Tom Ryder, a famous actor for whom he had doubled long ago. When Tom goes missing and the film, which is being directed by Jody Moreno, Colt’s ex-girlfriend in her directing debut, is in danger of being shut down, Colt volunteers to find Tom and save Jody’s debut film. The Fall Guy had its world premiere at SXSW this March and is releasing in theatres on May 3.
- House of the Dragon season 2: we got two new trailers for the second season of the prequel of Game of Thrones with a Black version and a Green version. This fantasy drama series is created by George R. R. Martin and Ryan Condal, and it is the second television series in the A Song of Ice and Fire franchise. Based on parts of Martin’s 2018 book Fire & Blood, the series begins about 100 years after the Seven Kingdoms are united by the Targaryen conquest, nearly 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, and 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen. Featuring an ensemble cast, the show portrays the events leading up to the beginning of the decline of House Targaryen, a devastating war of succession known as the “Dance of the Dragons”. And this war is coming closer and closer in this second season between the Blacks and Greens, which is why you have the two trailers for the two sides. Which side are you on? Season 2 of House of the Dragon is premiering on HBO on June 16.
- Monkey Man: the upcoming action thriller film directed by Dev Patel in his feature directorial debut. He also wrote the film with Paul Angunawela and John Collee and stars in it alongside Sharlto Copley, Pitobash, Sobhita Dhulipala, Sikandar Kher, Vipin Sharma, Ashwini Kalsekar, Adithi Kalkunte, and Makarand Deshpande. The film has been described as John Wick in Mumbai and follows Kid, an anonymous young man working in an underground fight club, so he can pay his bills. He sets out to exact revenge against a group of corrupt leaders, who are responsible for his mother’s death and also taking advantage of the poor and powerless people. Monkey Man is releasing in theatres on April 5.
- Humane: an upcoming dystopian thriller film directed by Caitlin Cronenberg and written by Michael Sparaga. It stars Jay Baruchel, Emily Hampshire and Peter Gallagher. The film is set mere months after a global ecological collapse has forced world leaders to take extreme measures to reduce the earth’s population. We follow a recently retired newsman who invites his grown children to dinner to announce his intentions to enlist in the nation’s new euthanasia program. But when the father’s plan goes horribly awry, tensions flare and chaos erupts among his children. Humane is releasing in theatres on April 26.
- The Veil: an upcoming thriller limited series written by Steven Knight and starring Elisabeth Moss, Josh Charles, Dali Benssalah, Yumna Marwan, and Alec Secareanu. Moss had to learn a British accent for this series which is about a potentially deadly game of truth and lies as two women travel from Istanbul to Paris and London, with one of them possessing a secret which the other needs to expose before thousands of lives are lost. The series will premiere on Hulu in the US and on Disney+ internationally on April 30.
