- The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2: the second season of the fantasy series, which is based on J. R. R. Tolkien’s history of Middle-earth, primarily material from the appendices of the novel The Lord of the Rings. Set thousands of years before the novel in the Second Age of Middle-earth, the season depicts the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron and the creation of more Rings of Power. Much of the series’ large international cast returns from the first season, including Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Maxim Baldry, Nazanin Boniadi, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Charles Edwards, Trystan Gravelle, Ema Horvath and Markella Kavenagh. This second season of the series is premiering on Prime Video on August 29 with its first three episodes and the other five episodes releasing weekly.
- Megalopolis: Francis Ford Coppola is back and that with a film a lot of people are looking forward to and he released a first teaser for the film before it premiered at the Film Festival of Cannes this week. Megalopolis is an epic science fiction drama film written, directed, and produced by Francis Ford Coppola. Set in an imagined modern America following a devastating disaster, the film features an ensemble cast, including Adam Driver, Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Jon Voight, Jason Schwartzman, Talia Shire, Grace VanderWaal, Laurence Fishburne, Kathryn Hunter, and Dustin Hoffman. A longtime passion project for Coppola, who first conceived the idea for the film in 1977 and actively started developing it in 1983, Megalopolis underwent significant delays and numerous cancellations over the years. Coppola revived the project in 2019 by spending $120 million of his own money on the film. Now the film is coming closer and closer as it premiered at Cannes this week, where it was selected to compete for the Palme d’Or. Megalopolis is releasing in theatres later this year.
- Dìdi: a new coming-of-age comedy drama film written, directed, and produced by Sean Wang, in his directorial debut. It stars Izaac Wang and Joan Chen in the lead roles. The film is set in 2008 and follows a 13-year-old Taiwanese-American boy who learns how to skate, flirt and love his mother. Dìdi had its world premiere at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, where it won the Audience Award: U.S. Dramatic and U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award: Ensemble. Dìdi is releasing in theatres on July 26.
- House of the Dragon season 2: the second season of the prequel of Game of Thrones, which is created by George R. R. Martin and Ryan Condal, and which is the second television series in the A Song of Ice and Fire franchise. Based on parts of Martin’s 2018 book Fire & Blood, the series begins about 100 years after the Seven Kingdoms are united by the Targaryen conquest, nearly 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, and 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen. Featuring an ensemble cast, the show portrays the events leading up to the beginning of the decline of House Targaryen, a devastating war of succession known as the “Dance of the Dragons”. And this war is coming closer and closer in this second season between the Blacks and Greens, which is why we had two trailers for the two sides that were released earlier this year and now we got another new trailer. Which side are you on? Season 2 of House of the Dragon is premiering on HBO on June 16.
- You’re Cordially Invited: an upcoming comedy film written and directed by Nicholas Stoller. It stars Will Ferrell, Reese Witherspoon, Geraldine Viswanathan and Meredith Hagner. It follows a bride (Viswanathan) and her father (Ferrell) who discover their dream wedding venue has been double booked for another bride (Hagner) and her wedding-planner sister (Witherspoon), with hilarious consequences. We will need a lot of patience to see the film because it is scheduled to be released by Amazon Prime Video on January 30, 2025.
- Only Murders in the Building season 4: the fourth season of the mystery comedy-drama series created by Steve Martin and John Hoffman. Just like in the other seasons, we will follow our trio Charles, Oliver and Mabel played by Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez. They all have a shared interest in true crime podcasts, who became friends while investigating a succession of suspicious murders in the Arconia, their affluent Upper West Side apartment building, and producing their own podcast about the cases, titled Only Murders in the Building. In this fourth season the trio is searching for answers about who killed Sazz (Jane Lynch), if they were actually aiming for Charles and why anyone would want to kill either of them. Meryl Streep returns as Loretta and she’ll be joined by Eva Longoria, Eugene Levy, Kumail Nanjiani, Molly Shannon and Zach Galifianakis as Sazz’s murder investigation stretches to L.A. as well as New York. Season 4 of the series is premiering on Hulu in the US and on Disney+ internationally on August 27 with a new episode releasing weekly.
- Dune: Prophecy: an upcoming science fiction series set in the Dune universe created by Frank Herbert. Focusing on the origins of the Bene Gesserit, an exclusive and powerful sisterhood who undergo intense physical training and mental conditioning to obtain superhuman abilities, it takes place approximately 10,000 years before the events of Herbert’s novel Dune (1965) and serves as a prequel to Denis Villeneuve’s Dune (2021). The series is produced by Legendary Television, with Alison Schapker serving as showrunner, writer, and executive producer. It stars Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Jodhi May, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Travis Fimmel, Mark Strong, and Chris Mason. The series is premiering on Max in late 2024.
- Wicked: the upcoming musical fantasy film directed by Jon M. Chu and written by Winnie Holzman. It is the first of a two-part film adaptation of the stage musical of the same name by Stephen Schwartz and Holzman, which in turn was based on the 1995 novel of the same name by Gregory Maguire. The film stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, with Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Marissa Bode (in her film debut), Bowen Yang, Bronwyn James, Keala Settle, and Peter Dinklage in supporting roles. Set in the Land of Oz before and continuing after Dorothy Gale’s arrival from Kansas, the film revolves around Elphaba Thropp, a green-skinned woman. She explores the path that leads her to ultimately become the Wicked Witch of the West, all while forming an unlikely friendship and later rivalry with Galinda Upland, who would go on to become Glinda the Good. The film is releasing in theatres on November 27. The sequel, simply entitled Wicked Part Two, is set to be released on November 27, 2025.
- Never Let Go: an upcoming horror-thriller film directed by Alexandre Aja from a screenplay by Kevin Coughlin and Ryan Grassby. It stars Halle Berry in the lead role as a mother of twin sons, played by Percy Daggs IV and Anthony B. Jenkins. We follow the mother and her twin sons who have suffered from the torment of a malicious spirit for many years. However, when one of the boys starts to doubt the existence of the evil, the family’s sacred bond is broken, leading to a dangerous fight for survival. The film is releasing in theatres on September 27.
- It Ends With Us: an upcoming romance film directed by Justin Baldoni and written by Christy Hall, based on the 2016 novel of the same name by Colleen Hoover. It stars Blake Lively, Justin Baldoni, Jenny Slate, Hasan Minhaj, Amy Morton, and Brandon Sklenar. The film follows Lily who overcomes a traumatic childhood to embark on a new life. A chance meeting with a neurosurgeon sparks a connection but Lily begins to see sides of him that remind her of her parents’ relationship. It Ends With Us is releasing in theatres on August 9.
- Ultraman: Rising: a new animated superhero film based on Tsuburaya Productions’ Ultraman franchise. A Japanese-American co-production between Netflix Animation and Tsuburaya Productions, with animation by Industrial Light & Magic, it is the 44th film in the franchise. It’s directed by Shannon Tindle (in his feature directorial debut), who co-wrote it with Marc Haimes. The film stars Christopher Sean as Ken Sato / Ultraman, alongside the voices of Gedde Watanabe, Tamlyn Tomita, Keone Young, and Julia Harriman. The film follows Ken Sato, a famous but egotistical baseball player living a secret life as the giant superhero Ultraman. He is forced to balance his career and hero duties after reluctantly adopting a baby kaiju after defeating her mother. Ultraman: Rising is releasing on Netflix on June 14.
- Bad Boys: Ride or Die: we got a final trailer for the fourth film in the Bad Boys franchise. This buddy cop action comedy film is directed by Adil & Bilall and is the sequel to Bad Boys for Life (2020). Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are back as Mike and Marcus, along with Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Paola Núñez, DJ Khaled and Jacob Scipio reprising their roles from the previous film, and with Tasha Smith taking over the role of Theresa Burnett from Theresa Randle, who previously played the character in the last three films. New cast members include Eric Dane, Ioan Gruffudd, Rhea Seehorn, and Joyner Lucas. The world’s favourite Bad Boys are back with their iconic mix of edge-of-your-seat action and outrageous comedy but this time with a twist: Miami’s finest are on the run. The film is releasing in theatres on June 7.
