Six To See June 15-21, 2024

  1. Kinds of Kindness: the new absurdist dark comedy anthology film directed by Yorgos Lanthimos from a screenplay he co-wrote with Efthimis Filippou. The film stars Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, Margaret Qualley, Hong Chau, Joe Alwyn, Mamoudou Athie, and Hunter Schafer. The film, described as a “triptych fable”, consists of three distinct but loosely connected stories. The first segment, “The Death of R.M.F,” follows a man who seeks to take charge of his own destiny after breaking away from his powerful boss. The second, “R.M.F. is Flying,” depicts a man plagued by suspicions that his spouse, who has recently returned after being reported missing, is an imposter. The final segment, “R.M.F. Eats a Sandwich,” revolves around a cultist’s task to find a specific person with the ability to resurrect the dead. Kinds of Kindness had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this month, where Plemons won the Best Actor award. The film was released in theatres in the United States on June 21 and in Ireland and the United Kingdom it’s releasing next week on June 28.
  1. House of the Dragon season 2: the second season of the prequel of Game of Thrones, which is created by George R. R. Martin and Ryan Condal, and which is the second television series in the A Song of Ice and Fire franchise. Based on parts of Martin’s 2018 book Fire & Blood, the series begins about 100 years after the Seven Kingdoms are united by the Targaryen conquest, nearly 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, and 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen. Featuring an ensemble cast, the show portrays the events leading up to the beginning of the decline of House Targaryen, a devastating war of succession known as the “Dance of the Dragons”. And this war is coming closer and closer in this second season between the Blacks and Greens, which is why we had two trailers for the two sides that were released earlier this year and now we got another new trailer. Which side are you on? Season 2 of House of the Dragon premiered on HBO on June 16.
