- Trap: We got a second trailer for the upcoming psychological thriller film directed and written by M. Night Shyamalan. The film stars Josh Hartnett as a serial killer dubbed ‘The Butcher’ who joins his daughter at a concert for pop star Lady Raven. He realizes the concert is a trap set by the police to catch him. Ariel Donoghue stars as The Butcher’s daughter Jody and Saleka Shyamalan as Lady Raven. Trap is releasing in theatres on August 9.
- The Best Christmas Pageant Ever: an upcoming Christmas film directed by Dallas Jenkins, based on the children’s novel of the same name by Barbara Robinson. It stars Judy Greer, Pete Holmes, and Lauren Graham. Nobody is ready for the mayhem and surprises that ensue when six of the worst youngsters disrupt the town’s yearly Christmas performance. The Best Christmas Pageant Ever is releasing in theatres on November 8.
- Kite Man: Hell Yeah!: an upcoming adult animated black comedy superhero series based on the DC Comics character Kite Man created by Bill Finger and Dick Sprang. The series stars Matt Oberg, Stephanie Hsu and James Adomian, and follows the adventures of Kite Man and his current girlfriend Golden Glider who have support the purchase of a local bar named Noonan’s. Nobody said serving cold ones to the most dangerous rogues outside of Arkham Asylum would be easy, but sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name, and how to hide a body. The series serves as a spin-off of Harley Quinn, where Kite Man was featured as a supporting character and ex-fiancé to Poison Ivy. The first season will consist of ten episodes and will premiere on HBO Max on July 18.
- Cobra Kai season 6 part 1: The sixth and final season of Cobra Kai, the sequel series to the original The Karate Kid films created by Robert Mark Kamen. The series was created by Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg. The series is a direct sequel to the original four films in The Karate Kid franchise, focusing on the characters of Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence over 30 years after the original film. Unlike previous seasons, the sixth season will be released in three parts of five episodes each, the first of which is set to release on July 18.
- Jackpot!: an upcoming action comedy film directed by Paul Feig and written by Rob Yescombe. It stars John Cena, Awkwafina, Simu Liu, and Seann William Scott. It follows new L.A. transplant Katie who accidentally finds herself with the winning ticket and must join forces with amateur jackpot protector Noel to make it to sundown in order to claim her multi-billion dollar prize, all while dealing with Noel’s protection rival Louis Lewis, who also wants to get her to sundown in order to claim his rich protection commission. Jackpot is releasing on Prime Video on August 15.
- Afraid: an upcoming science fiction horror film written and directed by Chris Weitz. It stars John Cho, Katherine Waterston, Havana Rose Liu, Lukita Maxwell, David Dastmalchian, and Keith Carradine. We follow Curtis and his family who are chosen to test a new home device called AIA. The digital assistant learns the family’s behaviors and routines. However, she becomes too involved and interferes with their lives. Afraid is releasing in theatres on August 30.
- F1: an upcoming sports action drama film directed by Joseph Kosinski and written by Ehren Kruger featuring the automobile racing championship, created in collaboration with the FIA, its governing body. The film stars Brad Pitt, Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Javier Bardem and Sarah Niles. It follows Sonny Hayes (Pitt), a Formula One driver who raced in the 1990s and has a horrible crash, forcing him to retire from Formula One and start racing in other disciplines. A Formula One team owner and friend contacts Hayes and asks him to come out of retirement to mentor rookie prodigy Joshua Pearce (Idris) on the Expensify Apex Grand Prix team (APXGP). F1 is released in theatres internationally on June 25, 2025, and in the United States on June 27, 2025.
- Agatha All Along: the upcoming Marvel miniseries created by Jac Schaeffer, based on the Marvel Comics character Agatha Harkness. A spin-off from the series WandaVision (2021), it is intended to be the 11th television series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) produced by Marvel Studios, via its Marvel Television label, sharing continuity with the films of the franchise. Schaeffer serves as showrunner and lead director. Kathryn Hahn reprises her role as Agatha Harkness from WandaVision, with Joe Locke, Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, Maria Dizzia, Paul Adelstein, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Okwui Okpokwasili, Debra Jo Rupp, Patti LuPone, and Aubrey Plaza also starring. At the end of WandaVision, the witch Agatha Harkness was trapped in the town of Westview, New Jersey. In Agatha All Along, she escapes with the help of a goth teen who wishes to face the trials of the legendary Witches’ Road. Without her magical powers, Harkness and the teen form a new coven of witches to face the trials with. Agatha All Along is premiering on Disney+ on September 18 with its first two episodes. The other seven episodes will be released weekly.
- The Supremes at Earl’s All-You-Can-Eat: an upcoming drama film directed by Tina Mabry and written by Mabry and Cee Marcellus. Based on the 2013 novel of the same name by Edward Kelsey Moore, it stars Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Sanaa Lathan, Uzo Aduba, Mekhi Phifer, Julian McMahon, Vondie Curtis-Hall, and Russell Hornsby. It follows three best friends who call themselves “The Supremes” and who have experienced life together through the good and bad. They are now finding their friendship tested. The film is releasing on Hulu in the United States on August 23.
- Gladiator II: the upcoming sequel to Gladiator (2000) which is directed and co-produced by Ridley Scott. This epic historical drama film was written by David Scarpa, from a story he wrote with Peter Craig, and stars Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Connie Nielsen, and Denzel Washington. The story follows Lucius, the former heir to the Roman Empire, who becomes a gladiator after his home is invaded by the Roman army, led by general Marcus Acacius, during the reign of co-emperors Caracalla and Geta. Gladiator II is scheduled to be released internationally, including the United Kingdom, on November 15, and later in the United States and Canada on November 22.
- Time Bandits: an upcoming fantasy adventure series created by Jemaine Clement, Iain Morris, and Taika Waititi, based on the 1981 film of the same name directed by Terry Gilliam. The series is described as a comedic journey through time and space with a ragtag group of thieves and their newest recruit: an eleven-year-old history nerd. Starring in the series are Lisa Kudrow, Kal-El Tuck, Charlyne Yi, Tadhg Murphy, Roger Jean Nsengiyumva, Rune Temte, and Kiera Thompson. Time Bandits is premiering on Apple TV+ on July 24.
- The Umbrella Academy season 4: the fourth and final season of the superhero series based on the comic book series of the same name written by Gerard Way, illustrated by Gabriel Bá, and published by Dark Horse Comics. Created for Netflix by Steve Blackman and developed by Jeremy Slater, it revolves around a dysfunctional family of adopted sibling superheroes who reunite to solve the mystery of their father’s death and the threat of an imminent apocalypse. In this fourth season the siblings have to come together one last time to save the world. All lead actors are reprising their roles from the previous seasons including Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Justin H. Min, Ritu Arya, and Colm Feore. Season 4 of the series is releasing on Netflix on August 8.
- One Fast Move: an upcoming action film written and directed by Kelly Blatz and starring KJ Apa, Eric Dane, Maia Reficco, Edward James Olmos, and Austin North. It follows a young man who seeks out his estranged father to pursue his dream of becoming a professional motorcycle racer. With help from his love interest and a motorcycle shop owner, he begins to break down the walls his father’s absence had created. The film is releasing by Amazon MGM Studios on August 8.
- Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie: a new adventure comedy film based on the animated television series SpongeBob SquarePants, created by Stephen Hillenburg. Directed by Liza Johnson, the film stars the series’ regular voice cast and includes new characters (both live-action and animated) performed by Johnny Knoxville, Craig Robinson, Grey DeLisle, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino, Matty Cardarople, and Wanda Sykes. The plot follows Sandy and SpongeBob as they venture to Sandy’s home state of Texas to save Bikini Bottom from the hands of an evil CEO. It is the first in a series of SpongeBob character spin-off films. Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie is releasing on Netflix on August 2.
- Captain America: Brave New World: the new superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Sam Wilson / Captain America. This is the fourth installment in the Captain America film series, a continuation of the television miniseries The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021), and the 35th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film is directed by Julius Onah from a script written by the writing team of Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson, and Matthew Orton. It stars Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson / Captain America alongside Danny Ramirez, Shira Haas, Xosha Roquemore, Carl Lumbly, Giancarlo Esposito, Liv Tyler, Tim Blake Nelson, and Harrison Ford. In the film, Wilson finds himself at the center of an international incident and must work to stop the true brains behind it. Captain America: Brave New World is releasing in theatres on February 14, 2025.
- We Live in Time: an upcoming romantic comedy-drama film directed by John Crowley from a screenplay by Nick Payne. The film stars Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh in the lead roles as Tobias and Almut. It follows an up-and-coming chef and a recent divorcée who find their lives forever changed when a chance encounter brings them together, in a decade-spanning, deeply moving romance. The film is slated to premiere at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival and is scheduled for a limited theatrical release in the United States on October 11.
- The Decameron: an upcoming medieval black comedy series created by Kathleen Jordan, which is inspired by the 14th century Italian short-story collection The Decameron by Giovanni Boccaccio. Starring in the series are Zosia Mamet, Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Tanya Reynolds, Leila Farzad, Tony Hale, and Jessica Plummer. Set in 1348 as the Black Death ravages Florence, we follow a number of nobles and their servants who retreat to the countryside Villa Santa. As they try to wait out the plague in the hills of Tuscany with wine and sex, the group eventually must fight for their survival. The series is releasing on Netflix on July 25.
- The Perfect Couple: an upcoming mystery drama series created by Jenna Lamia. It stars Nicole Kidman, Liev Schreiber, Dakota Fanning, Eve Hewson, Billy Howle, Meghann Fahy, and Ishaan Khattar. It is an adaptation of the 2018 novel of the same name by Elin Hilderbrand and follows Amelia who is about to marry into the wealthy Nantucket Winbury family, to the disapproval of their matriarch novelist. But when a body is found on the beach and secrets are revealed, everyone becomes a suspect. The series is releasing on Netflix on September 5.
- The Substance: a new body horror film written and directed by Coralie Fargeat, and starring Demi Moore, Margaret Qualley and Dennis Quaid. It follows Elisabeth Sparkle, star of an aerobics show, who is fired on her 50th birthday by her boss because of her age. When she returns home, her morale at its lowest, she receives an unexpected proposal. A mysterious laboratory offers her a miraculous “substance”: if she injects it, she will become “the best version” of herself, “younger, more beautiful, more perfect”. The film premiered at the 77th Cannes Film Festival earlier this year and was selected to compete for the Palme d’Or in its main competition section, where Fargeat won the Best Screenplay award. The film is coming to theatres soon.
- Close to You: a new drama film directed by Dominic Savage and starring Elliot Page, Hillary Baack, Peter Outerbridge, and Wendy Crewson. Savage and Page wrote the story together and both acted as producers. It follows Sam who is heading back home for a family reunion and bumps into an old friend. The film premiered at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival, and is scheduled to be released in theatres in the United States on August 16 and in Canada and the UK a week later on August 23.
