- MaXXXine: the new slasher film written and directed by Ti West. It is the final installment of the X trilogy, following X and Pearl. The film stars Mia Goth, who reprises her role as Maxine (and also serves as producer), alongside Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, Lily Collins, Halsey, Giancarlo Esposito, and Kevin Bacon. In the film we follow Maxine who, after surviving a massacre, moves to Los Angeles in the early 1980s to pursue her dreams of becoming a famous actress, but is soon stalked by a killer in Hollywood. MaXXXine was released in theatres on July 5.
- Fly Me to the Moon: a new romantic comedy drama film directed by Greg Berlanti and written by Rose Gilroy. The film stars Scarlett Johansson, Channing Tatum, Nick Dillenburg, Anna Garcia, Jim Rash, Noah Robbins, Colin Woodell, Christian Zuber, Donald Elise Watkins, Ray Romano, and Woody Harrelson. It follows the relationship between a marketing specialist and a NASA director during the 1960s Space Race. Fly Me to the Moon was released in theatres on July 12, before streaming on Apple TV+ at a later date.
- Longlegs: the new horror thriller film written and directed by Osgood Perkins. It stars Maika Monroe, Nicolas Cage, Alicia Witt and Blair Underwood. The film focuses on Lee Harker, a new FBI agent, who has been assigned to an unsolved case of a serial killer. As the investigation becomes more complicated with occult evidence uncovered, Harker realizes a personal link to the killer and must act quickly to prevent another family murder. The film was released in theatres on July 12.
- Despicable Me 4: the new animated comedy film produced by Illumination which serves as the sequel to Despicable Me 3 (2017), the fourth main installment, and the sixth installment overall in the Despicable Me franchise. The film is being directed by Chris Renaud, co-directed by Patrick Delage (in his feature directorial debut), produced by Chris Meledandri and Brett Hoffman, and written by Mike White and Ken Daurio. It stars the voices of Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, Miranda Cosgrove, Dana Gaier, Madison Polan, Will Ferrell, Sofia Vergara, Joey King, Stephen Colbert, Chloe Fineman, Pierre Coffin, and Steve Coogan. In this fourth film Gru, the world’s favorite supervillain-turned-Anti-Villain League-agent, returns for an exciting, bold new era of Minions mayhem, alongside his wife and fellow Anti-Villain League-agent Lucy, their three adopted girls and the newest member to the Gru family, Gru Jr., who is intent on tormenting his dad. The family is forced to go on the run when they become targeted by escaped criminal Maxime Le Mal and his femme fatale girlfriend Valentina. The film was released in theatres on July 3.
- Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F: the new action comedy film directed by Mark Molloy, written by Will Beall, Tom Gormican and Kevin Etten, from a story by Beall. Serving as the fourth installment in the Beverly Hills Cop film series, Eddie Murphy (who also produces) reprises his role as Axel Foley, with Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Paul Reiser, and Bronson Pinchot reprising their roles from previous films in the franchise, while Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Taylour Paige, and Kevin Bacon star in new roles. It follows Axel Foley who has returned to Beverly Hills after his daughter Jane’s life is threatened. She and Axel team up with her ex-boyfriend, and his old pals John Taggart and Billy Rosewood to turn up the heat and uncover a conspiracy. The film was released on Netflix on July 3.
- Space Cadet: a new comedy film written and directed by Liz W. Garcia. It stars Emma Roberts in the lead role alongside Tom Hopper, Poppy Liu, Dave Foley and Gabrielle Union. It follows Rex, a Florida party girl, who turns out to be the only hope for the NASA space program after a fluke puts her in training with other candidates who may have better resumes, but don’t have her smarts, heart and moxie. Space Cadet was released on Prime Video on July 4.
2 bonus films:
- Sing Sing: a new drama film directed by Greg Kwedar, who co-wrote the screenplay with Clint Bentley. Based on the real-life Rehabilitation Through the Arts program at Sing Sing maximum security prison, the film centres on a group of inmates involved in the creation of theatrical stage shows through the program. The cast includes professional actors Colman Domingo and Paul Raci, but mainly comprises real-life former inmates who were themselves alumni of the program during their incarceration. The film premiered in the Special Presentations program at the Toronto International Film Festival last year and was screened at several other film festivals. It was released in limited theatres in the US on July 12 before expanding on August 2.
- Touch: a new Icelandic romantic drama film directed by Baltasar Kormákur, written by Kormákur and Ólafur Jóhann Ólafsson, and produced by Kormákur, Agnes Johansen, and Mike Goodridge. The film is based on Ólafsson’s 2022 novel of the same name and stars Egill Ólafsson, Kōki, and Palmi Kormakur. It follows a widower who tries to find his first love 50 years after she disappeared. Touch was first released in Iceland on May 29 and was released in theatres in the US on July 12.
2 bonus series:
- A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder: a new British series based on the Holly Jackson novel of the same name, adapted by Poppy Cogan and directed by Dolly Wells. It stars Emma Myers in the lead role as Pippa (Pip) Fitz-Amobi. She isn’t satisfied that the killing of a local school girl has been investigated enough and takes matters into her own hands, via producing her EPQ on the topic. The first season of the series will consist of six 45-minute episodes covering the events of the first book. If the series is renewed, later seasons plan to cover the other two books. However, executive producer Frith Tiplady also stressed that the first season has a real end. The series was released on July 1 on BBC iPlayer in the UK and will be released on Netflix in the US on August 1.
- Sausage Party: Foodtopia: a new adult animated sequel miniseries based on the 2016 adult animated comedy film, Sausage Party. The series is developed by co-writers Kyle Hunter and Ariel Shaffir and features an ensemble cast that includes Seth Rogen (who co-created and produced the film), Kristen Wiig, Michael Cera, David Krumholtz, and Edward Norton reprising their roles from the film with Will Forte, Natasha Rothwell, Sam Richardson and Yassir Lester voicing new characters. Sausage Party: Foodtopia premiered on Amazon Prime Video on July 11.
