- Terminator Zero: an upcoming science-fiction action anime series developed by Mattson Tomlin and set in the Terminator universe. The eight-episode series is set in Japan and follows Malcolm Lee (voiced by Andre Holland) who has been developing another AI system that is intended to compete with Skynet. As Judgment Day approaches in 1997, Lee finds himself and his three children pursued by an unknown robot assassin, and a mysterious soldier from the year 2022 has been sent to protect him. Also voicing a character in the series are Timothy Olyphant, Sonoya Mizuno, Rosario Dawson, and Ann Dowd. The series is releasing on Netflix on August 29.
- Lee: a new biographical drama film directed by Ellen Kuras in her feature directorial debut, from a screenplay by Liz Hannah, John Collee and Marion Hume. It’s a story from Marion Hume, John Collee and Lem Dobbs, which is adapted from the 1985 biography The Lives of Lee Miller by Antony Penrose. It stars Kate Winslet as war journalist Lee Miller alongside Marion Cotillard, Andrea Riseborough, Andy Samberg, Noémie Merlant, Josh O’Connor, and Alexander Skarsgård. It tells the story of Lee Miller who goes from a career as a model to enlisting as a photographer to chronicle the events of World War II for Vogue magazine. The film took eight years to make and, at one point, due to precarious funding, Kate Winslet (who also produced the film) paid the entire cast and crew’s salaries for two weeks. The film made its world premiere at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival and will be released in theatres in the United Kingdom on September 13 and in the US a week later on September 20.
- Anora: a new comedy-drama film written, directed and edited by Sean Baker. It stars Mikey Madison in the title role of an exotic dancer and follows her beleaguered romance with the son of a Russian oligarch. It also stars Mark Eydelshteyn, Yura Borisov, Karren Karagulian, Vache Tovmasyan, and Aleksei Serebryakov. The film premiered in competition at the 77th Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, where it won the Palme d’Or, the first American film to do so since 2011’s The Tree of Life. Anora is releasing in theatres on October 18.
- A Different Man: an upcoming black comedy psychological thriller film written and directed by Aaron Schimberg. It stars Sebastian Stan, Renate Reinsve, and Adam Pearson. It follows Edward, a man with neurofibromatosis, who becomes fixated on another man playing him in a stage production based on Edward’s former life, after undergoing surgery for a new start in life. The film premiered at Sundance and is releasing in theatres in the United States on September 20.
- The Deliverance: an upcoming supernatural horror thriller film directed by Lee Daniels and written by David Coggeshall and Elijah Bynum. The film stars Andra Day, Rob Morgan, Caleb McLaughlin, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Tasha Smith, Omar Epps, Mo’Nique, and Glenn Close. This film is based on the Latoya Ammons family possession. The film is releasing in select theaters on August 16, and will stream on Netflix on August 30.
- Beetlejuice Beetlejuice: the upcoming sequel to Beetlejuice (1988), directed by Tim Burton from a screenplay by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, based on a story by Gough, Millar, and Seth Grahame-Smith. This fantasy horror comedy film stars Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara reprising their roles alongside new cast members Jenna Ortega, Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, Arthur Conti, and Willem Dafoe. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is releasing in theatres on September 6.
- Conclave: an upcoming psychological thriller film directed by Edward Berger and written by Peter Straughan, based on the 2016 novel of the same name by Robert Harris. It stars Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, Lucian Msamati, Carlos Diehz, Sergio Castellitto, and Isabella Rossellini. It follows Cardinal Lawrence, tasked with finding the successor to the deceased Pope, who discovers the former Pope had a secret that must be uncovered. The film will premiere at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival and is releasing in theatres in the United States on November 1 and in the United Kingdom on November 15.
- Dune: Prophecy: an upcoming science fiction series set in the Dune universe created by Frank Herbert. Focusing on the origins of the Bene Gesserit, an exclusive and powerful sisterhood who undergo intense physical training and mental conditioning to obtain superhuman abilities, it takes place approximately 10,000 years before the events of Herbert’s novel Dune (1965) and serves as a prequel to Denis Villeneuve’s Dune (2021). The series is produced by Legendary Television, with Alison Schapker serving as showrunner, writer, and executive producer. It stars Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Jodhi May, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Travis Fimmel, Mark Strong, and Chris Mason. The series is premiering on Max in November 2024.
- Alien: Romulus: we got a final trailer for the upcoming Alien film. This science fiction horror film, which is the seventh installment in the Alien franchise, is set between the events of Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986) and is directed by Fede Álvarez, who co-wrote it with Rodo Sayagues. It stars Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu. The story concerns a group of young space colonists who, while scavenging a derelict space station, come face to face with the most terrifying life form in their universe. The film is releasing in theatres on August 16.
- Joker: Folie à Deux: the upcoming psychological thriller film directed by Todd Phillips from a screenplay co-written with Scott Silver. It is the sequel to the 2019 film Joker and is loosely based on DC Comics characters. Joaquin Phoenix reprises his role as the Joker and Lady Gaga plays his love interest Harley Quinn. Zazie Beetz also reprises her role from the first film, while Brendan Gleeson and Catherine Keener also star. After murdering Murray Franklin live on television, Arthur Fleck is incarcerated in Arkham State Hospital, where he meets music therapist Lee. The two fall madly in love and experience musical madness through their shared delusions, while Fleck’s followers start a movement to free him from Arkham, ultimately giving rise to the Clown Prince of Crime’s criminal empire. The film is releasing in theatres on October 4.
- A Complete Unknown: an upcoming biographical drama film directed by James Mangold and written by Mangold and Jay Cocks, based on the 2015 book Dylan Goes Electric! by Elijah Wald. The film is about the controversy surrounding the switch to electrically amplified instrumentation by Bob Dylan. Timothée Chalamet stars as Bob Dylan and also serves as producer. It also stars Edward Norton, Elle Fanning and Monica Barbaro. The film will premiere in the United States in December 2024 and in the United Kingdom and Ireland in January 2025.
- Cuckoo: a new psychological horror film written and directed by Tilman Singer. It stars Hunter Schafer in the lead role as 17-year-old Gretchen who leaves her American home to live with her father, who has just moved into a resort in the German Alps with his new family. Arriving at their future residence, they are greeted by Mr. König, her father’s boss, who takes an inexplicable interest in Gretchen’s mute half-sister Alma. Something doesn’t seem right in this tranquil vacation paradise. Gretchen is plagued by strange noises and bloody visions until she discovers a shocking secret that also concerns her own family. Also starring in the film are Dan Stevens and Jessica Henwick. Cuckoo had its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival earlier this year and is releasing in theatres in the United States on August 9.
- Bad Monkey: an upcoming drama series developed and executive produced by Bill Lawrence. It is based on the 2013 novel of the same name by Carl Hiaasen. The series stars Vince Vaughn, Michelle Monaghan, Jodie Turner-Smith, Meredith Hagner, Rob Delaney, Natalie Martinez, L. Scott Caldwell, Ronald Peet, and John Ortiz. Ashley Nichole-Black, Victor Turpin, Charlotte Lawrence and Alex Moffat also star in recurring roles. It follows Andrew Yancy, a former police detective who has been reduced to conducting restaurant inspections in Southern Florida. A severed arm found by a tourist pulls Yancy into the world of greed and corruption that decimates the land and environment in both Florida and the Bahamas. Bad Monkey is premiering on Apple TV+ on August 14.
- Kaos: an upcoming mythological dark-comedy series created by Charlie Covell. The series revolves around three humans as they discover their connection to each other and to a long standing ancient prophecy while they deal with corrupt and arrogant gods of Classical mythology. It stars Jeff Goldblum as Zeus, Janet McTeer as Hera, Cliff Curtis as Poseidon, David Thewlis as Hades, Killian Scott as Orpheus, and Debi Mazar as Medusa. The series is releasing on Netflix on August 29.
- His Three Daughters: a new drama film written and directed by Azazel Jacobs. The film stars Carrie Coon, Natasha Lyonne, and Elizabeth Olsen as three estranged sisters who come back together to care for their aging father. It premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2023, and is releasing in select theaters in the United States on September 6, before streaming on Netflix on September 20.
- Transformers One: an upcoming animated science fiction film based on the Transformers toyline by Hasbro and Takara Tomy. It serves as the eighth installment in the Transformers film series and is directed by Josh Cooley and written by Andrew Barrer, Gabriel Ferrari, Steve Desmond, and Michael Sherman. The ensemble voice cast includes Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry, Scarlett Johansson, Keegan-Michael Key, Jon Hamm, Laurence Fishburne, and Steve Buscemi. The film is described as an origin story set on the planet Cybertron and will center on the relationship between Optimus Prime and Megatron going from brothers-in-arms to archenemies. The film is releasing in theatres on September 20.
