Six To See September 7-13, 2024

  1. Speak No Evil: a new psychological horror-thriller film written and directed by James Watkins. It is a remake of the 2022 Danish film of the same name. The film stars James McAvoy, Mackenzie Davis, Aisling Franciosi, Alix West Lefler, Dan Hough, and Scoot McNairy. Jason Blum serves as a producer through his Blumhouse Productions banner. It follows a family invited to spend a weekend in an idyllic country house, which goes from a dream vacation to a psychological nightmare. Speak No Evil was released in theatres on September 13.
  1. Uglies: a new science fiction action film directed by McG and written by Jacob Forman, Vanessa Taylor, and Whit Anderson. The film stars Joey King in the lead role, who signed onto the project, after previously being a fan of the Uglies novels. She also serves as executive producer for the film. Besides King, we also have Keith Powers, Chase Stokes, Brianne Tju and Laverne Cox starring. Based on the novel Uglies by Scott Westerfeld, the plot centers around a future post-apocalyptic dystopian society. It follows Tally who sets out to show that perfection isn’t important for people. Uglies was released on Netflix on September 13.
  1. The Killer’s Game: a new action comedy film directed by J. J. Perry and written by Rand Ravich and James Coyne, based on the 1997 novel of the same name by Jay Bonansinga. It stars Dave Bautista, Ben Kingsley, Sofia Boutella, Terry Crews, Pom Klementieff, Scott Adkins and Drew McIntyre. We follow Joe Flood, a veteran assassin who fends off a hit he placed on himself after learning the terminal medical diagnosis he received was incorrect. The film was released in theatres on September 13.
  1. My Old Ass: a new comedy film written and directed by Megan Park. It stars Maisy Stella, Percy Hynes White, Maddie Ziegler, and Aubrey Plaza. The film follows Elliott Labrant, who has been advised by her future self not to fall in love. She is sure she can follow the advice she has been given. That is, until she meets the boy her older self warned her about. My Old Ass premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, and, although there were plans to give the film a wide release in the United States and Canada, it was later announced that it had been scheduled for a limited theatrical release in the United States on September 13. Following the theatrical releases, the film will be made available on Prime Video for streaming worldwide.
  1. The Old Man season 2: the second season of the drama thriller series based on the 2017 novel The Old Man by Thomas Perry. It was developed by Jonathan E. Steinberg and Robert Levine and stars Jeff Bridges in the lead role. Also starring are John Lithgow, Bill Heck, Leem Lubany, Alia Shawkat, Gbenga Akinnagbe and Amy Brenneman. The series follows Dan Chase, a former CIA operative and Afghanistan veteran living off-the-grid in Vermont for thirty years. After killing an intruder who breaks into his home, Chase goes into hiding. He rents a room from Zoe McDonald, who becomes his forced partner while on the run. FBI Assistant Director for Counterintelligence Harold Harper is called to apprehend Chase because of their complicated past during the Soviet–Afghan War. Working alongside Harper are his protégés: FBI agent Angela Adams; CIA officer Raymond Waters; and Julian Carson, a hit-man hired by Harper to kill Chase. Season 2 picks up immediately after Season 1, with Dan Chase and Harold Harper on a mission to retrieve Angela after she was kidnapped by the terrorist Faraz Hamzad. This second season of the series was released on September 12 on FX in the United States and Canada and on Disney+ internationally.
  1. Wynonna Earp: Vengeance: Wynonna is back and that with this new special on Tubi. After four seasons, Wynonna Earp was done in 2020. Four years later, in February 2024, it was announced that Tubi had commissioned a one-off special titled Wynonna Earp: Vengeance. Melanie Scrofano, Tim Rozon, Dominique Provost-Chalkley, Katherine Barrell, Greg Lawson, and Varun Saranga all reprised their roles from the series. In this special Wynonna Earp is coming home to battle her greatest foe yet: a psychotic seductress hellbent on revenge against her and everyone she loves. Wynonna Earp: Vengeance premiered on Tubi on September 13.
