Here: a new drama film produced and directed by Robert Zemeckis, who co-wrote the screenplay with Eric Roth, based on the 2014 graphic novel by Richard McGuire. It stars Tom Hanks, Robin Wright, Paul Bettany, and Kelly Reilly. The film is a little Forrest Gump reunion with Zemeckis, Roth, Hanks and Wright working together again. The story covers the events of a single spot of land and its inhabitants, spanning from the past to well into the future. Here premiered at the AFI Fest on October 25, before being theatrically released in the United States on November 1 and it will release in other countries later this year.
Time Cut: a new science fiction slasher film directed by Hannah MacPherson, who co-wrote with Michael Kennedy. The film stars Madison Bailey, Antonia Gentry, Michael Shanks, Griffin Gluck, and Rachael Crawford. It follows Lucy Field, a high school senior student and amateur inventor who accidentally finds a time machine and travels back to 2003, the year her sister was murdered by an unknown killer. Back in time she tries to save her sister before she is killed. The film was released on Netflix on October 30.
A Real Pain: a new comedy drama film written, directed, and produced by Jesse Eisenberg, who also stars in it alongside Kieran Culkin, Will Sharpe, Jennifer Grey, Kurt Egyiawan, Liza Sadovy, and Daniel Oreskes. Emma Stone and Dave McCary serve as producers. A Real Pain follows mismatched cousins David (Eisenberg) and Benji (Culkin) who reunite for a tour through Poland to honor their beloved grandmother. The adventure takes a turn when the odd couple’s old tensions resurface against the backdrop of their family history. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 20 and at the New York Film Festival on October 6. It had a limited theatrical release in the United States on November 1 and will be released in other countries later this year and at the beginning of next year.
Juror No. 2: a new legal thriller film directed by Clint Eastwood and written by Jonathan Abrams. It is supposedly the last film that Eastwood directed. The film stars Nicholas Hoult, Toni Collette, J. K. Simmons, and Kiefer Sutherland. It follows family man Justin Kemp, while serving as a juror in a high profile murder trial, who finds himself struggling with a serious moral dilemma, one he could use to sway the jury verdict and potentially convict – or free – the accused killer. Juror #2 had its world premiere at AFI Fest on October 27 and was released in theatres on November 1.
Wizards Beyond Waverly Place: The Wizards of Waverly Place are back in this spin-off and sequel to Wizards of Waverly Place, the Disney series that aired on Disney Channel for four seasons between October 2007 and January 2012. The series has David Henrie reprise his role as Justin Russo. Janice LeAnn Brown, Mimi Gianopulos, Alkaio Thiele, and Max Matenko, and Taylor Cora also star. Selena Gomez will also guest star as Alex Russo, her character from Wizards of Waverly Place. The series revolves around a powerful young wizard named Billie, who comes to Justin Russo in search of training and prompts him to resume his life as a wizard, after he had chosen to live a normal life with his wife and two sons. Since Justin retired from teaching wizards, his sister, Alex Russo, sent in Billie, a new wizard-in-training. Billie is also similar to Justin’s rebellious and troublemaking sister in more ways than one. The series premiered on Disney Channel on October 29 and the first eight episodes are available to stream on Disney+ the following day.
The Diplomat: Season 2: the second season of the political thriller series created by Debora Cahn and starring Keri Russell in the lead role. Also starring in the series are Rufus Sewell, David Gyasi, Ali Ahn, Rory Kinnear and Ato Essandoh. It follows Kate Wyler, the new United States ambassador to the United Kingdom, as she helps to defuse an international crisis, forges strategic alliances and adjusts to her new place in the spotlight. She also manages her deteriorating marriage to fellow career diplomat Hal Wyler. This second season of the series was released on Netflix on October 31. Ahead of the second-season premiere, the series was renewed for a third season.
