Six To See January 1-10, 2025

  1. We Live In Time: a new romantic comedy-drama film directed by John Crowley and written by Nick Payne. It follows the relationship of a couple, played by Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh, over the course of a decade. The film uses nonlinear narrative. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and was released in theatres in several countries like the US and Canada on October 18 and in even more countries later in 2024. Now the film was also released in even more countries, like in the UK, Ireland, Belgium and France on January 1.
  1. Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl: a new British stop-motion animated comedy film produced by Aardman Animations and the BBC in association with Netflix, and directed by Nick Park and Merlin Crossingham. It is the sixth Wallace & Gromit film, the first since A Matter of Loaf and Death (2008), and the second feature-length film after The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005). It features the return of the villainous penguin Feathers McGraw from The Wrong Trousers (1993), who takes revenge on Wallace and Gromit by reprogramming their robotic garden gnome. Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl was broadcast on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on December 25 in the UK, becoming the second-most-watched UK broadcast since 2022 and was released on Netflix internationally on January 3. The film holds a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
  1. The Pitt: a new medical drama series created by R. Scott Gemmill and starring Noah Wyle, Tracy Ifeachor, Patrick Ball, Katherine LaNasa, Supriya Ganesh, Fiona Dourif, Taylor Dearden, Isa Briones, Gerran Howell, and Shabana Azeez. Each episode of the season covers one hour of a single 15-hour emergency room shift at the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital with the first episode taking place at 7 am. The series follows the daily lives of several healthcare professionals in that Pittsburgh hospital as they juggle personal crises, workplace politics, and the emotional toll of treating critically ill patients, revealing the resilience required in their noble calling. The Pitt premiered on Max on January 9 with the first two episodes, and the rest are being released weekly. The series already received positive reviews from critics and has a score of 91% on Rotten Tomatoes. It might become one of the best series of this year.
  1. Missing You: a new mystery miniseries, adapted from the novel of the same name by Harlan Coben, who acts as executive producer on the series. It is directed by Nimer Rashed and Isher Sahota with the screenplay written by Victoria Asare-Archer. The series follows Detective Inspector Kat Donovan, played by Rosalind Eleazar, who discovers her “missing” fiancé on a dating app, over a decade since his disappearance. Also starring in the series are Jessica Plummer, Richard Armitage, Lenny Henry, Steve Pemberton, Marc Warren, Samantha Spiro, Lisa Faulkner, and Ashley Walters. Missing You was released on Netflix on January 1.
  1. Den of Thieves 2: Pantera: the sequel to Den of Thieves from 2018. This action crime drama film was written and directed by Christian Gudegast, and stars Gerard Butler, O’Shea Jackson Jr. and Meadow Williams, reprising their roles from the first film. Immediately following the events of Den of Thieves, we follow sheriff “Big Nick” O’Brien who is tracking down Donnie Wilson, who escaped to Europe and is planning another heist. In an interview with Screen Rant, Gudegast said it is based on the 2003 Antwerp diamond heist, while the film itself takes place in the diamond district of Marseille. The film was released in theatres on January 10.
  1. American Primeval: a new western miniseries created and written by Mark L. Smith, who wrote the screenplays for the films The Revenant (2015), The Midnight Sky (2020), The Boys in the Boat (2023), and Twisters (2024). It’s directed by Peter Berg and has an ensemblecast that includes Taylor Kitsch, Betty Gilpin, Kim Coates, Jai Courtney, Shea Whigham, Dane DeHaan, and Saura Lightfoot-Leon. The series examines the fight to gain control of the American West and the sometimes violent clash between religion and culture. American Primeval consists of six episodes that were released on Netflix on January 9.

Bonus:

  • Avicii – I’m Tim: We’re ending the first Six To See of 2025 with a bonus release, which is a new documentary that was released on the very last day of 2024, after the dates of the last Six To See of 2024. This documentary is about the life of Swedish DJ Avicii, who left us in 2018. The film premiered at the Tribeca Festival on June 9, 2024 and was released on Netflix on December 31, 2025. The film is directed by Swedish director Henrik Burman, and produced by Björn Tjärnberg. It includes never-before-seen archive footage and interviews with Bergling himself and also features newly produced material, with interviews with Bergling’s family, friends and colleagues. There are interviews from Chris Martin, Nile Rodgers and David Guetta among others. Along with the documentary there was also Avicii – My Last Show that was released on Netflix, in which we see Avicii gracing the stage of the Ushuaïa nightclub in Ibiza for what would be his final performance.
