Six To See January 25-31, 2025

  1. Companion: a new horror film written and directed by Drew Hancock and produced by Zach Cregger, Roy Lee, Raphael Margules and J. D. Lifshitz. It stars Sophie Thatcher and Jack Quaid in the lead roles alongside Lukas Gage, Megan Suri, Harvey Guillén and Rupert Friend. It follows a weekend getaway among friends at a remote cabin, which unravels into chaos after a revelation that one of the guests is a companion robot. Companion was released in theatres on January 31 and already received positive reviews from critics. Some people are already calling it the best horror film of the year and one of the best films of this year in general.
  1. You’re Cordially Invited: a new romantic comedy film written and directed by Nicholas Stoller. It stars Will Ferrell, Reese Witherspoon, Geraldine Viswanathan and Meredith Hagner. The film follows a bride (Viswanathan) and her father (Ferrell) who discover their dream wedding venue has been double booked for another bride (Hagner) and her wedding-planner sister (Witherspoon), with hilarious consequences. You’re Cordially Invited was released on Amazon Prime Video on January 30.
  1. Love Me: a new post-apocalyptic romance film written and directed by Andrew and Sam Zuchero in their feature directorial debut. It stars Kristen Stewart and Steven Yeun in the lead roles as a buoy and a satellite. They meet online and fall in love after the end of human civilization. The film is described as “a sci-fi romance centered on a satellite and an ocean-bound buoy who become increasingly sentient and fall in love over the course of billions of years.” Love Me premiered at the Sundance Film Festival last year and was released in theatres in the US on January 31.
  1. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man: a new animated series created by Jeff Trammell, based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man. The series explores Peter Parker’s origin story and early days as Spider-Man, and is set in an alternate timeline from the main films and television series of the MCU where Norman Osborn becomes Parker’s mentor instead of Tony Stark. Trammell serves as head writer with Mel Zwyer as supervising director. Hudson Thames voices Parker, reprising the role from the Marvel Studios animated series What If…? (2021–2024), with Colman Domingo, Eugene Byrd, Grace Song, Zeno Robinson, Hugh Dancy, Charlie Cox, Kari Wahlgren, and Paul F. Tompkins also starring. The first season of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man premiered with its first two episodes on Disney+ on January 29, with the remaining episodes being released in groups until February 19. A second and third season are in development.
  1. The Recruit Season 2: the second season of the spy adventure series created by Alexi Hawley. The series stars Noah Centineo in the lead role as Owen Hendricks, a CIA lawyer who becomes involved in massive international conflicts with dangerous parties after an asset tries to expose her relationship to the agency. Also starring in the series are Laura Haddock, Aarti Mann, Colton Dunn, Fivel Stewart, Daniel Quincy Annoh, Kristian Bruun, Vondie Curtis-Hall. They are being joined by Teo Yoo in this second season. The first season of the series was released on Netflix on December 16, 2022 and ended with a big cliffhanger. Now the second season was released on Netflix on January 30, so you can watch what happens next to Owen.
  1. Paradise: a new political thriller series created by Dan Fogelman and starring Sterling K. Brown, Julianne Nicholson, Sarah Shahi, Nicole Brydon Bloom, and James Marsden. It involves Xavier Collins, a Secret Service Agent assigned to the protection detail of the President. Paradise premiered on Hulu in the US and internationally on Disney+ on January 26 with the two following episodes released on January 28. The rest of the episodes are being released weekly.
