The award weekend ended on Sunday night with the Screen Actors Guild Awards. The ceremony, which was live on Netflix, was hosted by Kristen Bell. Shogun and Conclave won the big prizes of the night and Jane Fonda received a life achievement award.
The surprise of the night was Timothée Chalamet, who won best actor for his performance as Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown, with Demi Moore winning best actress. Chalamet won best male actor in a leading role, his first in an awards race that has been led all season by The Brutalist’s Adrien Brody, who has picked up the Golden Globe, Bafta and Critics’ Choice awards and is still widely predicted to win the Oscar next week. Chalamet made history with this win becoming the youngest actor to win the SAG Award for best actor. Moore won for her role in the body horror The Substance, triumphing over Anora’s Mikey Madison and Wicked’s Cynthia Erivo in the female actor in a leading role category.
Kieran Culkin picked up yet another supporting male actor award for his role in A Real Pain, having already won the Golden Globe, Bafta and the weekend’s Independent Spirit awards. Zoe Saldaña also continued her run of wins, picking up the supporting female actor award for her role in Emilia Pérez. Continuing its sweep, having dominated the Emmys and the Golden Globes, Shōgun won four awards: drama ensemble, stunt ensemble and best male and female actor in a drama series.
Colin Farrell won his first SAG award and Selena Gomez didn’t win anything for her role in Emilia Pérez, but she took a SAG Award home for her role in the series Only Murders in the Building, which won the comedy ensemble award. Gomez didn’t expect it and Martin Short and Steve Martin probably not as well, because both stars of the series weren’t there. Short also won the award for best actor in a comedy series for his role in the series.
