  1. Karate Kid: Legends: the new martial arts drama film directed by Jonathan Entwistle and written by Rob Lieber. It is the sixth film in The Karate Kid franchise following the 2010 film of the same name and is set after the events of the television series Cobra Kai. It stars Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio, both reprising their roles from the franchise, while introducing Ben Wang as the main lead alongside Joshua Jackson, Sadie Stanley, and Ming-Na Wen. It is the first film in the series not to be produced by Jerry Weintraub, who died in 2015. It is also the first PG-13 rated entry in the Karate Kid film series. It serves as a continuation to the original films of the franchise and Cobra Kai, which starred Macchio, and the 2010 film starring Chan, merging them in a single shared universe. The film follows kung fu prodigy Li Fong who relocates to New York City. He attracts unwanted attention from a local karate champion and embarks on a journey to enter the ultimate karate competition with the help of Mr. Han and Daniel LaRusso. Karate Kid: Legends was released in theatres in Europe on May 29 and in the US and Canada the next day on May 30.
  1. The Phoenician Scheme: the new espionage black comedy film produced, written and directed by Wes Anderson from a story he conceived with Roman Coppola. The film features an ensemble cast that includes Benicio del Toro, Mia Threapleton, Michael Cera, Riz Ahmed, Tom Hanks, Bryan Cranston, Mathieu Amalric, Richard Ayoade, Jeffrey Wright, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Rupert Friend, and Hope Davis. It follows wealthy businessman Zsa-zsa Korda who appoints his only daughter, a nun, as sole heir to his estate. As Korda embarks on a new enterprise, they soon become the target of scheming tycoons, foreign terrorists, and determined assassins. The Phoenician Scheme had its world premiere in the main competition of the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, and was released in theatres on May 30.
  1. Dept. Q: a new British crime thriller series created by Scott Frank, the writer and director of The Queen’s Gambit, and Chandni Lakhani. It’s based on the book series of the same name by Jussi Adler-Olsen. The series stars Matthew Goode, Kelly Macdonald, Chloe Pirrie, Alexej Manvelov, Leah Byrne, Mark Bonnar, Jamie Sives, Shirley Henderson, and Kate Dickie. It follows former top-rated detective Carl Morck who tackles a cold case while turning an Edinburgh basement office space into a well-oiled machine full of misfit officers dedicated to cracking whatever seemingly impossible cases come across their desks. Dept. Q premiered on Netflix on May 29.
  1. Mountainhead: a new satirical comedy-drama film written and directed by Jesse Armstrong in his directorial debut. He is the creator of the acclaimed series Succession. The film stars Steve Carell, Jason Schwartzman, Cory Michael Smith, and Ramy Youssef in the lead roles alongside Hadley Robinson, Andy Daly, Ali Kinkade, Daniel Oreskes, David W. Thompson, Amie MacKenzie, and Ava Kostia. It follows wealthy friends meet up amidst an ongoing financial crisis. Mountainhead was released on HBO and HBO Max on May 31.
  1. Bring Her Back: the new Australian supernatural horror film directed by Danny and Michael Philippou, and written by Danny Philippou and Bill Hinzman. It’s the second film from the Philippou brothers, who made their feature directorial debut when they wrote and directed the supernatural horror film Talk to Me. The film stars Billy Barratt, Sora Wong and Sally Hawkins. It follows a brother and sister who uncover a terrifying ritual at the secluded home of their new foster mother. Bring Her Back was released in Australia and other countries on May 29 and in the US and Canada the next day on May 30.
  1. The Better Sister: a new thriller limited series directed by Craig Gillespie, who will direct the upcoming Supergirl film. The series is an adaptation of the 2019 novel of the same name by Alafair Burke. It stars Jessica Biel and Elizabeth Banks in the lead roles alongside Corey Stoll, Maxwell Acee Donovan, Gabriel Sloyer, Kim Dickens, Michael Harney, and Bobby Naderi. The series follows two estranged sisters who are forced together after one of their husbands is murdered. The Better Sister was released on Prime Video on May 29.

  • And Just Like That season 3: the third season of the Sex and the City sequel. This comedy drama series is developed by Michael Patrick King and is a revival and a sequel of Sex and the City created by Darren Star, which is based on Candace Bushnell’s newspaper column and 1996 book anthology of the same title. Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis are back as Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte, alongside Mario Cantone, David Eigenberg, Evan Handler, and Sarita Choudhury. Set 11 years after the events of the 2010 film Sex and the City 2, the women of Sex and the City make their transition from a life of liberation and friendship in their 30s to a more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s. Season 3 of And Just Like That premiered on HBO Max on May 29 with a new episode releasing weekly.
