Six To See best of 2025

The year is over and so it’s time to look back at the best movies and series that were released this year. Here are the best 30 movies and 30 series of 2025.

Best movies of 2025:

  1. One Battle After Another: the best movie of this year is the newest one from Paul Thomas Anderson, in my opinion. Leonardo DiCaprio is amazing in it, just like Teyana Taylor and Chase Infiniti.
  2. Superman: DC is totally back with the new Superman movie, which I loved. It has an amazing cast, especially Nicholas Hoult who is great as Lex Luthor.
  3. Wicked: For Good: After Wicked last year, we finally got the second part of the story this year. It was a beautiful movie once again with an amazing Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.
  4. Sinners: The best horror movie of this year, in my opinion. Even as someone who doesn’t like horror, I loved the movie. Ryan Coogler made a great movie.
  5. The Fantastic Four: First Steps: The best Marval film of this year. The Fantastic Four are totally back.
  1. The Mastermind: The best film I saw at the Filmfestival of Ghent this year. Josh O’Connor is an amazing actor.
  2. A Complete Unknown: This is the best film I saw at the Filmfestival of Ostend at the start of this year. Timothée Chalamet is doing great with Marty Supreme at the moment, which was already released in the US, but not here in Belgium, so this movie will be on the list for next year. But A Complete Unknown was released this year, so it can be on the list for this year.
  3. Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning: One of the best action movies of this year. We – probably – said goodbye to Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt, because this is supposed to be the last Mission: Impossible movie. It had several great action sequences and was a beautiful farewell to the franchise.
  4. Frankenstein: Guillermo del Toro did it again, this time with Frankenstein. He takes us with him in his world and keeps you there. Jacob Elordi is amazing as the monster.
  5. Wake Up Dead Man: Benoit Blanc is, besides James Bond, the best role of Daniel Craig. He was really good in this third movie of the Knives Out-franchise and was accompanied by an amazing ensemble cast.
  1. Thunderbolts*: Besides The Fantastic Four, we also had the Thunderbolts this year. It was fun to see all these characters from different MCU movies and series together.
  2. Avatar: Fire and Ash: James Cameron brought us back to the world of Pandora in the third Avatar-movie and showed us once again why he is one of the best directors. The story was maybe a little repetitive, but I love to learn more about the world of Pandora and Varang was a great character.
  3. The Brutalist: A long but beautiful movie, with a wonderful Adrien Brody in the lead role. It’s no surprise that the movie won a lot of prizes this year.
  4. The Chronology of Water: Kristen Stewart is not only my favorite actress now but also my favorite director now that she made her directorial debut with The Chronology of Water. This movie might not be something for everyone, but I loved it.
  5. Nouvelle Vague: One of the characters that Stewart played in her career is Jean Seberg, who was played by Zoey Deutch in Nouvelle Vague. Seeing this movie made me want to see the original movie they make in this one.
  1. Hedda: Tessa Thompson is one of my favorite actresses and was wonderful once again in Hedda. She can do anything.
  2. Mickey 17: After Parasite Bong Joon-ho was back this year with his new movie Mickey 17, which is funny and has an amazing Robert Pattinson in the lead role. It wasn’t as good as Parasite, but is a movie you have to see.
  3. Bugonia: Als back was Giorgos Lanthimos who worked with Emma Stone again, after Poor Things and Kind of Kindness. While Poor Things was one of my favorite movies of 2023-2024, I was not such a fan of Bugonia. It’s still a good movie, and really weird, but not as good as Poor Things.
  4. Sentimental Value: International films have done a great job this year, including the Norwegian movie Sentimental Value from Joachim Trier. It has an amazing cast and a beautiful story.
  5. It Was Just an Accident: This is another great international film that won the Palme d’Or at Cannes this year. Director Jafar Panahi, who is critical of the Iranian government and has been imprisoned several times, keeps making his art and he needs to keep doing it.
  1. Train Dreams: A beautiful movie with a wonderful Joel Edgerton in the lead role.
  2. Zootopia 2: One of the biggest box office successes of 2026 and just a fun movie to watch.
  3. Roofman: Channing Tatum and Kirsten Dunst are amazing in this movie that is based on true events.
  4. Ballerina: After Keanu Reeves as John Wick we have a new action star in the franchise: Ana De Armas.
  5. KPop: Demon Hunters: One of the biggest hits of Netflix this year. This movie and the songs were everywhere.
  1. F1: Brad Pitt in a formula 1 car? Yes, please. A great film full of cars, and fun fact:  they were in Belgium to film a part of it.
  2. Arco: This year we had several beautiful animated movies that were released, including this French one. It tells a beautiful story and was fun to watch.
  3. Elio: This is another great animated movie that was released this year and tells an amazing story.
  4. The Smashing Machine: Dwayne Johnson showed he can really act with this movie. He is not just an action star, but can also play a more dramatic role.
  5. Jay Kelly: We’re ending the list with the Netflix movie Jay Kelly, starring George Clooney in the lead role, alongside Adam Sandler, who once again shows that he is not only good in comedy but also drama.

Best series of 2025:

  1. Stranger Things S5: My favorite show of all time is coming to an end this year, with the very last episode releasing tonight. I really loved the show and this fifth and last season. I will miss it, but luckily I can always watch it again if I want to.
  2. Wednesday S2: Another series I really love is Wednesday and this year it was finally back with its second season. It was a fun season, including Lady Gaga who was in one of the episodes.
  3. Adolescence: One of the best miniseries and series of this year is without a doubt Adolescence; not only because it was good and unique (every episode is a one-shot), but also because of the impact it had on the world.
  4. Pluribus: When you know that the creator of Breaking Bad is behind this series, you know it will be good. And it was really good. Rhea Seehorn is amazing in the lead role.
  5. Severance S2: Besides Pluribus Apple TV also released the second season of their show Severance, which once again blew our minds.
  1. Yellowjackets S3: Another one of my favorite shows that was back with the third season and becomes even crazier and crazier. We finally got to know who the pit girl was and who was the big boss. But we also had to say goodbye to several loved characters.
  2. The Last of Us S2: After a beautiful first season, the adaptation of my favorite video game was back. Because I played the games several times I knew what was coming, but it was still very emotional. Kaitlyn Dever did an amazing job as Abby and Bella Ramsey is still great as Ellie.
  3. Daredevil: Born Again: This year Daredevil was back, just like Charlie Cox that returned as the superhero. It was a great first season and I look forward to the second season, especially knowing that Krysten Ritter is returning as Jessica Jones.
  4. Gen V S2: We have to wait a few more months until the last season of The Boys, but we still could enjoy the new season of the spin-off Gen V. I really love this show and it had a beautiful tribute to Chance and his character.
  5. The White Lotus S3: After Hawaii and Italy, it was time to go to Thailand with The White Lotus. It had an amazing ensemble cast once again and several great twists.
  1. Only Murders in the Building S5: Another great series with amazing twists. I was guessing who was the murderer until the very end.
  2. IT: Welcome to Derry: Like I wrote before, I am not a big fan of horror, but I liked the new IT series. It has an amazing cast and Bill Skarsgård is great as Pennywise.
  3. I Love LA: After seeing an episode of IT every Monday, I could laugh with the new series from Rachel Sennott. I Love LA is a fun series with an amazing cast. And it also has several great cameos.
  4. Peacemaker S2: Not only did we get Superman this year, but John Cena was also back as Peacemaker. It was a crazy second season, with a cameo from several characters from Superman and nazi’s, and was a fun ride.
  5. Murderbot: While Bill Skarsgård was doing a great job as Pennywise, his brother Alexander was als amazing as a robot in Murderbot. This series was fun and also easy to binge.
  1. The Studio: Another fun series from Apple, with the amazing Seth Rogen. It had a lot of amazing cameos and it was a lot of fun to watch it.
  2. Poker Face S2: Natasha Lyonne was back this year in the second season of Poker Face as Charlie, who met a lot of crazy people again. The guest stars this season were amazing and it’s sad that this second season is the last one.
  3. Dying for Sex: Michelle Williams is wonderful in this fun but also sad series. Knowing it’s loosely based on the real-life experiences of someone makes it even better.
  4. The Mighty Nein: We also had several great animated series this year, with a second season of Hazbin Hotel that was released, but we also had the amazing new series The Mighty Nein. As a fan of The Legend of Vox Machina, I also really loved watching this series that is set 20 years after Vox Machina.
  5. Paradise: Politics are a big part of our world, and so you can’t go without a political series. Paradise is amazing and had a lot of mysteries.
  1. Death by Lightning: Another great political and historical series that tells us the real life story of a man a lot people have forgotten.
  2. The Hunting Wives: One of the series that took Netflix in the US by storm. Here in Belgium it was never released on Netflix, but luckily it was on television. The twists and turns in this series are just crazy.
  3. Alien: Earth: After the Alien movies we got the first series in the franchise this year. It’s one of the best horror series of 2025 and was a crazy ride.
  4. The Bear S4: The Bear was back with its fourth season and once again brought us into the world of Carmen and his restaurant. Ayo Edeibiri was also great again this season.
  5. Andor S2: After a great first season we got a second and last season of Andor. It’s one of the best Star Wars series and tells a story that has to be seen.
  1. The Summer I Turned Pretty S3: Years ago we had Team Jacob and Team Edward, this year we had Team Conrad and Team Jeremiah. This third season of the series was the last one, but it’s not the end of the story because we will get a movie.
  2. Wayward: Mae Martin was already great in their series Feel Good and now they were back with Wayward. This time it was a thrilling series, that you had to binge.
  3. Dept. Q: Another miniseries that was great to binge and was watched a lot is Dept. Q. It was one of the top series for a while this year.
  4. Black Mirror S7: Back this year was Black Mirror with already the seventh season of the series. There were once again some beautiful episodes, like the one with Paul Giamatti, but there were also scary episodes that make you think about technology.
  5. Task: We’re ending the list with another great crime series that is powerful and emotional. It has an amazing cast, including Mark Ruffalo and Tom Pelphrey.
